Break and rotors kit. Power stop

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Anyone ever installed Power Stop Z23 Evolution Sport Drilled and Slotted Brake Kit ?
If so how is stopping power and dust? Is drilled rotors gets rust easily? How is the pad wear ?
Reason asking it is reasonably priced.

What kind of after market break kits do u guys have ?

Currently i have Akebono EURO Ultra-Premium Ceramic Disc Brake Pads. Stopping power is not so good probably because I didn’t change my rotors when i change my pads. IMG_4293.jpg

I personally like the pads. I got the Z26 for my S6 for front and rear. Hated the excessive brake dust from oem pads. Z26 has just about zero dust. The Z23 and Z26 share the same brake material, just different backing plates. Here is a thread that you can read about various pads and Powerstop.

Drilled rotors are mostly all bling. With the new BRAKE pad technology you don’t need the drilled technology to get rid of the gasses because the gasses are not made now. Under heavy braking situations many have experienced cracked rotors through the drilled holes. Nothing beats a solid rotor.

I have had the powerstop rotors/pads front and rear for about 8mo 10k+ miles. While I would have preferred dimples, the drilled holes are done properly and in the right spots accounting for the vanes. We will see how well the rotor holds up to cracking, but it should be fine for street use. Otherwise the drills/slots are indeed pretty much for looks only, though they do keep the pads clean in certain conditions as rare as that may be. Stopping power is as good as OEM, in the cold and rain they are really bitey. Not a spec of rust yet on the non pad surfaces, they have a pretty nice zinc coating everywhere. Pad wear seems to be slightly accelerated, though dust is nearly non existent. I didn't wash my wheels since I put them on, and there was less dust on them after 8 months than oem pads do in two weeks.

I check pad wear and inspect the rotors once a month, and so far so good. If something does go wrong I will probably chime in about it.

Thanks for sharing. Which pad did you installed?
Exactly my thoughts on rotors it should be okay for street use. Hopefully it doesn’t get rust in drilled holes. Please let us know if it is does.

Thanks. I picked up S6 caliper kit months back to swap onto the A6, and have started looking at obtaining the discs and pads. Sounds like a winner here.

I assume you mean pads only and not rotors correct?

I bought sets of the z16 and z26 pads, I got a full z16 set for $20 so threw them on. The z26 should perform the same, the added carbon just increases fade resistance. Which in street use, I don't think is ever gonna happen. With how big the rotors are, along with the dynamic brake force distribution, the rotors just don't get that hot. I haven't noticed any fade, and my commute contains many quick 65-5mph stops on the freeway when HOV toll dodgers are out and about.

The last time I inspected the holes they were dirty. I took a pipe cleaner thing doused in sonax and brushed one of the holes out and the zing coating was still there, all shiny again.

Thanks for this input, how are they holding up after all this time, and how’s the pad wear. I too am thinking of getting powerstop Z23 evolution. But I just saw a video about them that really crushed my spirit about them, cause so far all research I had conducted made it seem like a solid brand of rotors and pads. I know no brand has a 100% success rate but hey…

I've had the Z26 pads and rotors for about 30k miles already and ZERO issues

when they do finally wear out, I'm going to buy another Z26 pair

Over 11K mi on my S6 all 4 corners, no issues like that video. I like these pads. Initial bite is not like oem, but I don't mind, you get used to it.

That’s great feedback to read! I’m gonna pull the trigger and get them for my front end first. I think he just got one of those bad batches.
