    Buying Napa/AutoZone ReMan Calipers

Does anyone have any horror stories buying reman calipers from Napa/Autozone?

I started tearing into my front calipers today to rebuild but after struggling with a twisted off bleeder valve I think I am going to avoid the hassle and just buy a remanufactured set.

Napa has "non-bracketed" variants, but from the listing pictures here...
    https://www.napaonline.com/en/search...plication=true
...they all come with the middle piece of the assembly that you mount the caliper to the upright.

Are those pictures wrong and they don't come with that piece, requiring me to dissassemble my old calipers and reuse that part or are they talking about a different bracket? Maybe the bracket to mount the pad sensor/hardline to softline connection through?

On another note, I can't even get my driver side caliper off the car, I do not have the hulk strength to turn the bolts. I can't get a breaker in there and my electric impact is a piece of crap and won't budge them, but that's a different problem.

Also, whoever was in there last cobbled together a rear/mid ss line and hooked it up without using the bracket to secure the body hard line to the car, dodged a bullet removing that crap without ruining the stock body hardline. So atleast I beat the S4 there today. This car likes to fight me.

I have full set of front brakes lines/ rotors/ calipers that came of f the car i purchased with only 33,000 miles on them. I'd sell them cheap as I really need to get them out of my garage

Driver’s side caliper- Have you tried turning the wheel all the way to the right for more access? Turn it, lock the wheel by removing the key and then use a breaker bar.

I’ve been using Napa rebuilt calipers for years on many vehicles and never had an issue.

rubber mallet the end of the wrench, change the height of the vehicle to allow you more leverage. Working from the ground you can't exert max force nearly as easy... but usually a mallet and/or some penetrating will help. Eventually you go to big extensions big breaker bar, and something will twist.

The remanufactured stuff from autozone will likely work just fine. They use crap parts to rebuild it, but even crap parts work... most of the time, for a while at least. But major drive/safety parts are definately borderline. Personally, I'd go another route and look at minor upgrades. But rockauto https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...b,caliper,1704 and I'd get a namebrand. Usually, if you dig into it, the more expensive kits are more expensive for a reason.

Quick update because I have to tell you Audi heads..

I ended up getting some AC Delco remans from rockauto, thanks James.

Finally was able to bust the driver side caliper bolts. You guys wanna know why my Milwaukee 1/2 impact couldn't do anything to them? I had to go out and buy a 25" breaker bar at harbor freight and literally stand and bounce on it.

Looks like the idiot who was last in here used about a bottle of threadlok on each bolt. The threads are completely caked in it.

Fuck the next guy who has to do the job am I right?

I win Audi, you get new brakes no matter how hard you want to fight me.

Now I just need new caliper hardlines/bolts and to choose the color I'm going to paint the calipers.

Looking at G2 they have a purple and I love both green and purple, dunno how well it would flow though. May just keep them silver, what do you all think?

nice. It's the small victories. Had a bolt snap on my rear caliper, presumably after torquing issue from a tech, on track. luckily the trailing bolt so only sent the caliper through the wheel once I backed up.

Wish I could say professional mechanics were better on average... not always the case.
