What's Your Roof Bar Setup on Your Avant?

Hi All,

I have an old Yakima setup for my last A4 Avant, but it had raised rails. My new-to-me A6 Avant has the flush rails so I'm looking for new towers/footpack and possibly new bars so I can mount a bike rack or my roof box. Searching around in this forum didn't yield too much and anything that popped up seemed kinda old. So I'm wondering what everyone is getting these days. Any suggestions? I've looked on the Yakima/Thule websites and been into REI, so I have a basic idea of what's available. Just wanted to know if you really liked a particular setup.

I did mines just recently.
Got the set of Q5 roof bars and amended them to my A6.

Thanks guys! kneel, I was wondering what direction you went in as I found you asked a similar question a while ago. I had seen the option of doing the Q5 bars, I was just hoping not to have to modify anything and just go plug-and-play with whatever I got.

I wish I could do AVANTOBERFEST. That would be great. But I'm on the west coast and that may be too big of a trip. Thanks for the offer though!

I have whisp bars I love em. They don’t mount to the inside of the roof rail to they stick out but they are quiet and works great.

Thule aeroblades, had them ~4-5 years now. Holding up well and are the quietest bars we've had, which is good considering the price.

I've got Thule everything except I use a Yakima Platinum plus box (because it's one of the yakima's that has the quick attachment to the crossbars but allows you to close and latch the box without forcing it to be locked. I prefer being able to just open and close it with a lever and only lock it if I see fit).

of course I had to get the new towers when I went from my C5 S6 to the c6 A6.
in the summer I run a pair of Thule bike racks and a long thule flat top 6 (for wakeboard).


I've been using the classic load bars for years, so just kept them. Although I did fabricate an extension so that my fairing could be further forward and not be resting on top of my sunroof.


In the winter I'll run either no rack or I'll run the box. Sometimes the box with bike attachments.

Summer look is most fun though.
(this is with my old Thule big mouth bike racks that have since been replaced with newer better ones).

Thanks all for the replies! My plan at the moment is to check out the big REI sale coming up (in a week or so I believe) and see if I can get a good deal on either Thule or Yakima. I'll update with what I do, and of course some pics.

Trayson, which bike racks are you using? I need one for my road bike and am leaning toward one that clamps onto the front and rear wheels rather than the kind that lock onto the frame itself. But I'm curious to know what you have. Thanks!

When I had a C6 Avant, I used a Yakima rail grab set. They mounted really low to the roof and looked nice. I still need to sell them, so if you don't go through with the REI purchase, PM me (have a full set of locks as well)
