    A6 brakes on my 2003 a4

Got a complete set of a6 calipers, brackets, and rotors for nothing. From a 1999 a6 biturbo with the four pads per caliper. Anything else I need? Will they even bolt up? If not I will be looking for a set of Touareg calipers.

    A6 brakes on my 2003 a4

    Which year A6 are they from? If it’s a C5, don’t bother. If they’re from a C7, different story.

I had a set of B7 S4 fronts on my B6. Made a world of difference. You need to buy a pair of B7 A4 calipers (super cheap) and then the B7 S4 rotors, caliper carriers and some pads. Clean them up, paint them and off you go. Stainless lines can go with them while you have it apart on each side.

    1999 A6 = HP2 calipers. I personally wouldn’t even bother.

Consider the above or even a stock front A4 setup an ‘05.5-08 A4. Much larger than stock (320mm vs 288mm) and 100% bolt-on for a super cheap price anywhere.

^ What he said. I have the Lucas HP-2 set up on my Avant currently, and am looking to swap it for something else. Only benefit to these, is the brake pad replacement is easy. Also, the caliper design has a tendency to warp the rotors.
Another thing about them is the calipers are bigger than most others, and may require spacers to clear your wheels. X2 for the B7 brakes.

I run the B7 calipers/rotors and am happy with the upgrade. I accidentally found out that a similar era A6 caliper (not exactly sure of the year range), is pretty much the same caliper, but with a little bigger bracket to accommodate the larger diameter rotor used on the A6. So I'm pretty confident the A6 caliper/rotor would work on the B6 as a slight bump up in size from the B7 caliper/rotor that myself and others have used. I actually had the A6 caliper mounted up to my B6 with the B7 rotor, only to then realize the pad was hanging off the outer edge of the rotor.

question: which calipers are cheap at a junk yard which would have the face plate designs shows s4, brembo, quattro, etc? I don't mind getting vinyl heat resistant stickers and clear coating over. Again these junkyards are slim pinks for vw audi parts

I have to disagree. I have calipers from a 2001 4.2l A6 on my 2002 A4 along with Powerstop slotted and drilled rotors and they are the best brakes I've ever had. Perhaps it's the rotors that are the cause of the reported warpage because mine have been smooth as silk for the past year. How many people have had an issue first hand? In my 25 years in the car scene I have found many reports to just be regurgitated and not actually first hand accounts.

The install was just unbolting one and bolting on the other with A4 braided lines. I am also using the stock A6 flat(fat) five wheels with no spacers and no rubbing.

    Warped rotors = runout

Replacing a rotor without a dial indicator is a bit like rolling the dice.

I grabbed the calipers/brackets from a 2006 A6 C6 3.2 that ended up being the exact same as the B7 A4. I always thought the B7 S4 bracket was actually longer than the B7 A4, thus allowing at larger rotor. I didnt check the A6 C6 rotors, but the hat looked to be a much lower offset than the B7.

Trying to remember off the top of my head, but the 2003-04 3.0 A6 and 2003-05 Allroads had the option to get the same brakes as the B7 A4 versus the Lucas HP2 calipers. You could also find them on 6th generation Passat’s, as the 3.6 VR6 4motion sedan and wagons had the option to receive the exact same caliper and carrier as the B6/B7 S4. Rotors will be specific to the chassis they were engineered for, as the offset/rotor heights are usually unique to each chassis.

I have the HP2 calipers on the front of my A4. Fully rebuilt using NAPA parts and using Zimmerman cross-drilled rotors with Bosch pads. Absolutely no issues in the operation of these over the last 5 years. Heavy but holy hell they grab. If you can get them for a good price they bolt right on and clear the OEM 17" sport wheels.

Rotors rarely warp, it's improper bed-in that's a major issue, can't be bothered explaining further, look it up.
