DIY: Install LED H8 fog lights in B8.5 A5

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I just installed the DeAuto LED fogs in my 2013 A5 and it was very simple but there's a few things to be aware of:

    1. The B8.5 A5 will not fit LED bulbs without modification, but it's a simple mod
    2. The foglight covers can be pulled off rather easily just be careful
    3. LED bulbs can be plugged in two ways, but only 1 will work due to polarity - test functionality before putting it all back together

    Tools needed:

    T20 torx bit
    Ratchet & extension bar
    Grinder/dremel tool
Panel removal tools or screwdriver with end covered

I did a quick video to show what I did. No, I'm not a pro at making videos, but I do hope it's helpful.

Mine were plug and play, I went in through the wheel well while I had the car jacked up to swap winter wheels.

His tutorial is on the A5, so I'm actually curious if this problem is specific to the A5. Everything I've read in the past is that these are supposed to be plug and play on the S5.

My mistake. I assumed the A5 and S5 would be the same in the lower grille area.

I have an A5 and my LED fogs were 100% plug-n-play. No need to modify anything at all and no issues with the LEDs.

Is yours an S-line though? Being that the A5 S-line and S5 have the same bumpers, perhaps the difference is specific to A5's that are not S-line? I didn't pay attention to mine last time I had the bumper off or the fog covers off. I do plan to do fogs at some point, but all my money has been going to house related stuff lately.

Yes, S-line so the bumpers are the same. I think the issue the OP had is that he chose LED bulbs that are just physically bigger than the original bulbs. His look like they might have a small fan on the back or something. The LEDs I installed were about the same size at the bulbs they replaced. There are so many options for LED replacements out there and I chose one that just popped right in without any modification or having to add any external modules.

What bulbs did you go with? Deautoled is supposed to be direct replacement, and that's what OP used. I do have Deautoled for my footwell lights, and they were a perfect match in that situation (very high quality, too).

I bought phillips ones that were supposed to be error free, but alas they were not. I bought error cancelling resistors, but haven't installed them yet. Definitely looks better without having that ugly halogen light messing up the nice hid light output. Phillips wasn't cheap at $110, but no problems installing, just with the error code.

Thanks for sharing DIY video but you can actually go through fender well without removing front grille.
I used DAMA LED's from HIDCONCEPT.COM and they work fine without error message and no modification was needed.

I know the fenderwell access is possible, and I started that way, but since I needed to do some trimming, opted to go in via the front. Also, accessing via the front means you don't need to turn your wheels at all. If anyone has hands that can fit between the tire & fenderwell liner while pointed straight ahead, there's a circus waiting for your call...

Glad some people haven't had to trim like I did. The wheelwell is an option, but after going in via the front, I think that's the simpler option since there is no need to fire up the engine and turn the wheels for each side. To each their own though.
