Brake Pad Clip Broke During Replacement

Is this a big deal? I just replaced my OEM with Akebono ceramic pads. The front, inside pad has the tri-prong clip that holds the pad in place. When I was pushing the new Akebono pad in, one of the prongs literally just snapped off like it was made out of tin foil...

I proceeded to seat the pad with just the two prongs. Everything seemed in place when putting the assembly and wheel back on. I haven't driven it just yet but just wondering if anyone has had this happen or knows of any potential issues here with not replacing it?

    Thanks in advance!

Who did you buy the pads from? They might be able to offer a replacement.

The clip connects the pad to the piston which helps retract it away from the rotor to reduce drag.
If you put it on with only two clips it will likely lead to uneven wear and shorter pad life.
It may also cause the pad to move more than designed and lead to some noise.

Brake Pad Clip Broke During Replacement

    Did you break it?
    No?- parts warranty.
Yes?-buy another set or keep them installed.

To me brakes are important and I want zero chances for failure or even reduced functionality, performance or life.
I think installing them blows your chance for a parts warranty as it would make them look like install error instead of a broken clip on a part in the box.
