Two questions: dogs in an A/S7; difference in pre-facelift to post-facelift

Hey guys - we have two 2012 A6s. Wife will be traveling alot with one of our German Shepherds (Schutzhund training), and sometimes with both of them in the car. So looking at a couple different things and had a couple questions:

    (1) With the seat down and an A/S7 open from rear tailgate to the back of the seats, is there significantly more room for a large dog(s) than in the A6? We strap them in with harnesses but no way both of them fit in the A6 at the same time. Or does the low sloping roof make it to where its no different than a dog strapped in the back seat of an A6? Thoughts? I think I know the answer but exploring every option before we move to an SUV.

    (2) Anyone move from a pre-facelift C7 of any kind to a post-facelift C7, and is there a significant difference in electronics or anything else that improves daily driving? Reason being, if we did go to an A/S7 we'd probably be weighing a pre-facelift S7 vs a 2016 or 2017 A7....so weighing comfort and newer model vs the power of the S7...

Any thoughts on either of these questions?

    Thanks board!

While I can’t speak conclusively on the extra space, I would imagine the hatchback setup would be better for the dogs. The facelift cars have better/updated MMI along with other minor updates. I’d buy as new as you can within your budget.

The A7/S7 definitely is better for dogs, as said before the newer the better. The S7’s do have turbo issues.

Have you thought of getting a Q7? Or even a Touareg?

Wife doesn't like the Q7s even though I do...but its her car. SUV would be a Cayenne most likely. Kinda want to stretch the budget for a Cayenne Turbo...

the 4.0TT issue scares me buying used to be honest.

I’m not sure how it compares to the A6, but there’s tons of room in the back for two large dogs. I regularly put my Rottweiler back there when I’m running errands or road tripping up to CO.

I had and '05 S. Best highway riding SUV ever. Unfortunately it was back when they had steel suspension and after 130,000 miles that thing would jar your teeth driving in town over potholes.

Thanks that is the kind of feedback I am looking for. The A6 has a nice trunk and a nice back seat, but obviously has the rear deck in between! I was visualizing that the 7, with nothing in between, would have a ton of room in it.

    Thanks!

Well fellow Past Cayenne owner, get a GTS then it’s a great compromise
