    C7 A6 vs A7 vs C6 A6 3.0t performance

    Hello everyone,

I am in the market for a new car. Currently in a 2001 BMW 740i and looking for something with similair storage/people capacity but newer, faster, AWD. Naturally I am drawn to audi.

Anyways, can any of you comment on the performance differences between C7 A6 and A7 3.0t vs the C6 A6 3.0t? I would assume that the newer models would perform better due to the new 8-speed transmission, but how much of difference does it make? I like the rarity and increased storage capacity in an avant C6 A6, but the A7 has a respectable storage space itself and killer looks. Also, how much difference in performance is there between the A7 and C7 A6? Thoughts on straight line speed and handling would be appreciated!

    Thanks.

Don't have a 3.0T, but my A6 TDI has the 8-speed and I had a B7 with the 6-speed tip. In terms of transmission performance, it's a day and night difference. The 8HP trans is SOOO much more responsive to input, and shifts much faster than the previous 6HP did. I also don't have that little spot in 6th around 45 mph where it the revs would slightly bob up and down. Manual mode is much better than Sport, in my opinion, but it's so easy to switch between them.

I believe the A7 is slightly heavier than its A6 sibling (not by much) so it may be minutely slower but overall should not notice a difference.

    C7 A6 vs A7 vs C6 A6 3.0t performance

The 3.0T engines between C6 and C7 are extremely similar despite a slight power bump in the C7.
However the C7 gets the excellent 8sp tranny and a lighter and better handling chassis..with the biggest differentiator being the updated styling and tech.
I had a C6 S6 and the primary reason i replaced it was the styling was starting to look dated when the new cars came out.
    I’ve also had both a C7 A6 and A7.
There is not really a perceptible difference in performance although the A7 did feel a tad heavier to handle when I first got into it. It’s slightly larger and weighs like 150lbs more prob due to the rear electric glass hatch.
However the practicality of the huge trunk is awesome. It’s about 6-8” deeper in length than my Jeep Grand Cherokee trunk.

Thank you for the helpful insight. Aside from the improvements in chassis and transmission, did the c7 get any other performance upgrades to the c6. Like brakes or suspension? Out of curiosity, why did you end up selling the a6 for the a7?
