    SEASUCKERs: anyone have personal experience?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I have been looking for a roofrack for my wife's Ford Flex because we're getting a cargo box for trips, and I was originally wanting to get the Ford OE rails and pair them with some nice crossbars, but then I randomly stumbled on these bad boys (Actually Facebook targeted me with an ad but this time it was welcomed) and I thought to myself...."hey then I can take the bike or cargo box places with MY car too!!"

My concerns are obvious....do they really hold up, then I saw this video while looking for honest reviews:

The full video is on DailyDrivenExotics youtube channel and the box does eventually rip off going 175 mph for a few minutes, but it's the box anchor that fails, not the seasucker cups! I'm impressed to say the least and I think I'm going to pull the trigger on the foldable Monkey Bars unless someone here stops me. haha

The biggest problem I had is where to mount them without being too far forward or not being able to use sunroof. I put the single cups up front and the duals in the rear and I can use my sunroof and it sits perfectly. Jzwecker with the yellow s4 uses single cup mounts all around (custom and totally different rack) and it seems to hold up. Ultimately, I love them. They look so much better than the standard

I wouldn't put those on the sunroof. The roof is rated to hold what, ~150lbs, but the sunroof definitely is not. And doesn't a Flex have a panoramic roof? I'm not sure where you could even mount the suckers.

That's a good point. I didn't think about possibly having to mount it on the roof glass. Our Flex has a sunroof like the A4 on the front and then two glass windows above the rear seats. I don't think those windows even pop up, so I would think it would be like mounting the cups on the rear glass which a lot of hatchbacks do apparently, and jzwecker, mentioned above. Something to consider. Maybe I'll reach out to Seasuckers with that question. Ive heard their customer service is legit so I should get a straight answer.

I feel like there is enough metal on either side of the glass that I could mount these to, but maybe not

Thanks, I will ask him. His set up looks custom. I'd rarely use it on my car, but would be nice to have the ability. His box is pretty long which may be why he has it mounted on his rear glass instead of the roof. I'd mostly use it for bikes

Why do you want a huge ugly roof box on your car?

I'll def take some pics with the box on (if we end up getting a nice sleek one). My wife wants one that will hold as much as possible, so it might be pretty bulky. Trying to find a middle ground so it hopefully would at least look cool too. hahah

I'm not going to run it all the time. It will be for function only. It will mainly be used on my wife's Ford Flex when we go ride trails or vacations. With a two yr old and new born, you have to take so much shit on extended trips...our three row SUV gets stuuuufffffed. The nice thing about these things is if I do need to put them on my car, it's a simple 5 minute install, and BOOM, I'm good to go haul some wood from home depot.

you guys must only travel alone. haha. I can't fit 2 bicycles, bike trailer, luggage, carseats, double stroller, pack'n play, 4 people, and my dog in my SUV. I need a roof rack to haul all my gear!

I'm going with these bars because I can easily put them on my car too if I want to take my bike somewhere without having to dissemble it entirely and stuff if in my trunk and back seats

Trade that Ford Flex in for a Q7 or Allroad if you need space so bad.

I have a VW Touareg that I put stuff in and plus if I needed to could 100% haul anything in my wildest dreams haha. If you’re traveling with all this stuff you should really just get a trailer lol.

I think avants and all roads look better with racks & cargo boxes. We all obviously have our own likes and dislikes.

It's my wife's car and she wanted the Flex. It's waaaay bigger than an Allroad and I would be shocked if the Q7 offered much more. I wish the Atlas would have been out when we bought it. Those things are beast.

I don't have anywhere to store a trailer and I hate driving with them, but I only NEEEED space about 2-3 times a year. Hauling crap on my roof is just going to be so much more convenient

I agree, I think the hatches look dope with a rack and box. I'm not planning really ever using the box on my A4, but I'll probably put it on and take pics for my IG account once or twice just to switch things up

My neighbors have an Atlas (white with black stock wheels) and its a bad ass looking SUV. I like it a lot.

Drive an Atlas. It drives like a Ford F-150. The body roll is awful. Tow capacity is a joke. It’s not worth the money. They should bring the new Touareg over here that’d be a nice car.

It is lol. I test drove the first model year maybe they’ve improved? When my Touareg was getting looked at the dealership I thought mine as well look at the Atlas after my 7k repair bill 😂. Couldn’t do it. The Atlas didn’t even have a power passenger seat.

It looks like they offer a Premium and R-line version (that is about $15-20k more than base, mind you!). Also a 2.0t or 3.6L V6 option. wonder if that is any better than what you test drove. Towing capacity more than doubles with the v6, but still only about 275 HP and 265 ft-lb

I didn’t test drive an Rline because it wasn’t out yet at the time. How ever I did drive the SE or SEL with the V6. V6 felt sluggish compared to the Touareg. I didn’t even look at the 2.0T because I know that I’d couldn’t move truck that size. The towing capacity on the Touareg is 7,716 over 2,716 more then the Atlas.
Maybe they’ve improved the Altas from the first model year, I’m not sure though. And I don’t want to spend Audi money on a VW unless it’s a Touareg lol.

Ya, the Atlas towing is 5,000 lbs for the higher models with the v6. I feel you on the money though. That puts it at $50k for a midsize VW suv. Although our Flex was $54k new in 2016. We bought it used a year and a half later for 30. haha

30k is much better then 54k for a Ford Flex lol.

But to be honest I’m sure an off Lease Atlas with the crazy good warranty would make me look again haha

haha I hear ya. Our flex is pretty cool though if you like the body style. We got the two tone white pearl with black top (the only color option I even bothered to look for) and 20" black wheels. It has more tech than my A4 too. I would have rather gone with a land rover or VAG but my wife really likes the Flex looks and its hers sooo

I actually do like the Flex body. I looked at them when they first came out. But they wanted $600 a month for a lease. Wasn’t doing that.
And trust me the Range Rover Land Rover route isn’t anything good. Definitely not for a wife or family car...
