Most of my driving is in town and the average over the life of the car's 3700 miles is like 11.6 MPG. What are others experiencing? Is anyone else experiencing mpg this low?

Dang, that's rough. Maybe you need to ease off the right pedal a bit ? Or not, who cares! I only have about 380 miles on mine and my in-town average is currently at 16.4 mpg. That includes one 50 mile romp into the foothills around Denver so the altitude was in the 6000-8000 ft range. Are you in a lot of stop-and-go traffic ? If so, that's really killing your gas mileage...

I’ve got ~1500 miles on mine. Getting about 14 around town and 25-ish on the highway.

    Well worth it !!

I’ve got about 1300 miles and my combined is around 19 mpg. Mix of highway and city driving but my highway driving tends to be a lot of stop and go during rush hour.

That’s not bad for your setup...jb4. I’m getting from 11-21mpg depending on my foot. 🙂 but let’s be honest none of us bought this car because we were concerned with mpg.

Being that the A/S/RS5 gas tank is about 3 gallons less than my current C5 A6, I'll be happy getting ~300 miles per tank that I get currently in my A6 (mixed city/hwy more hwy leaning) with my RS5 when it arrives.

I have about 4000 miles and my long term memory average is 20.6mpg . I drive about 30 miles each way to work and 90% of the drive is highway.
I've seen as low as 10mpg and as high as 22mpg. The smaller gas tank is definitely a pain though. I have to refill about every 4-5 days.

City driving/Suburbs driving - tons of stop and go... average about 15-18. If driving around town with no traffic and highway then 25-28 mpg

    6.5 km/l = 15.3 mpg. I assume that your fuel consumption # is the short-range number.

I have a 2019 RS5 SB, bought in Feb 2019, and I've been recording all my fuel-ups since Jun 2020. 55,400 miles recorded at a blended MPG of 21.1 (9.0 km/l); I underdrive the car and rarely mash the throttle. Might your number be the resulte of the way you drive; do you mash the accelerator since yesterday or are you driving conservatively?

With cruise control and steady traffic, I can get 28 - 30 mpg on the highway.

I’m driving okay, i mean i didn’t mash the accelerator. The problem is every time i start a new short trip, the fuel consumption is showing me like 30mpg…but the range goes in around real 10km, it lower to 30km from range. So the real consumption should be i think 13-15mpg in the city….. on highway i had 21.1mpg… i’m not sure how it’s calculated in the city…why it’s showing me a wrong consumption.

I have a 2019 RS5 SB with about 65k miles. My mileage has been pretty consistent since I got through the break-in period. I did tune the car after it was out of warranty, but the mileage is nearly identical before and after. It has more to do with how I drive it.

I always drive in Sport mode and never in Manual or Drive mode. Around town I get 18-19 mpg cold/winter weather and 20-21 in summer. On the highway in the summer ( road trips) I get as high as 31.7 mpg in Sport mode, but only 28 mpg in Drive mode. On high speed tracks (i.e., Road America, VIR) I get about 9 mpg.

Since you are only getting about 2 mpg more than I do when I am on a high speed race track, either you are driving really hard on the street or there is something wrong.

Had my '19 since new. Mileage has been consistent. In mixed driving I get between 19.5-21 actual calculated mpg. I have seen as high as 30 mpg on a moderate speed highway trip.
I keep the car in dynamic mode and put it in sport mode around town.

Mostly driving in the city, capital so the traffic is very heavy. I have only 1 drive outside the city per week. But everyday i frice 5-10km with on/off the engine. I have around 16-20l / 100km. And didn’t drive everyday in rs mode. I think for 450hp this is the real fuel consumption in a crowded city. Even if is not crowded like today for example, i had 20l consumption…

The 450hp is not an issue unless you are stomping on the throttle frequently. The car only makes that much power at full throttle and full boost. Otherwise, you are driving around with much less power. My tuned RS5 has 514hp, 537tq and I still get 18-21 mpg in town and 31.7 mpg on the highway. If my conversion is correct, it looks like you get 11.7 to 14.65 mpg from the stock engine.

If all of your time is spent in stop-and-go traffic, that would lower your mileage or, if you drive in Manual and goose the throttle frequently, that could be the cause. Otherwise, it would appear that something is out of place for your mileage to be that low.

Yes, my time spent in traffic is stop and go, 2km then stop, then another 1km then stop….also my city is very crowded. I drove 2 days ago an 60km trip and my consumption was around 8l/100km. I think is over 31mpg or around there. But in traffic in short time stop and go trips, only 17-20l/100km. Unfortunately heavy traffic kills big power sport cars. If i drive 10km around traffic to adjust the consumption, then i’m ok but if not, like i said, in short trips (1-2km) then stop…this is the real consumption. I assume it cuz in the end are 450 hp

I live in the Chicago area with over 9 million people, and it has the worst traffic in the US. I'm no stranger to traffic, yet I get much better mileage in heavy traffic than you do, and I have more horsepower. What mode do you drive in: Drive, Sport, Manual? I use Sport. Is the car up to date on factory service including air filter and spark plugs?

Yes, factory service made up to 10k km. The car has 34k km, it’s almost new… i’m driving in comfort mode. The instant consumption starts from 40l/100km and lows around to 20l if i didn’t have an longer trip than 2km, i think the trip is too small. My long term consumption is 13.5l/100km.

Honestly, I'm not sure how much you can rely on the trip computer to be that precise, and short trips are no way to determine what your mileage is. The car is not warmed up until the OIL is up to temperature. In my car that can take 10-20 minutes depending on the outside temperature. Not only will your fuel consumption be worse, but you need to oil to get up to temperature to burn off combustion by-products in the oil. You need to make sure you get the oil up to temperature on a regular basis to keep you oil healthy.

Regarding consumption rates, I suggest you calculate them yourself rather than rely on the trip computer. Set the trip odometer each time you fill up the tank, and calculate consumption (distance/liters) each time you fill up. For example, I might get 240 miles before the red light comes on in the fuel gauge. When that happens (red light) my car always takes 12.5 gallons (so there is close to 3 gallons left in the tank). So, in my case 240miles/12.5gallons = 19.5 mpg. This method is much more consistent and accurate than the trip computer.

Finally, I know it's counter-intuitive, but try driving in Sport instead of Drive. When you put the car in Comfort it automatically places the engine/transmission in Drive. The gears show up as D1, D2, D3, etc. Pull back once on the shift lever so that the gears show up as S1, S2, S3, etc. The suspension will still be in Comfort, but the engine/transmission will behave differently. This may help your consumption when driving at lower speeds as it puts less load on the engine by keeping it in a lower gear. For example, put the Power display on the dashboard, put the car in Drive and drive at a steady speed and make note of the power % needed to maintain that speed. Then, pull back on the shift lever once to put the car in Sport. Maintain that same speed. You will see that it requires less power to maintain that speed in Sport. Of course, the car will be more responsive, so you can hurt consumption by taking accelerating more often, but it may help your consumption if you can avoid doing so.
