S6 vs S7

Getting ready to pull the trigger on an S7, I've had an A6 for the last two years and it's been great.

Anyone drive both of these? The S6 is like $9,000 cheaper than a similar S7 and I'm wondering if it's worth but I'm ready for a change and the S7 looks awesome from behind.

I like the practicality of hatchbacks or fast backs. The trunks are huge. As such, I always defer to these style cars if they are available. And while looks are subjective, I prefer the s7 look.

Honestly putting personal preference on looks aside. They up-charge on the A7/S7 because they can, much like the 2-door vs. 4-door. A4 vs A5. For whatever reason coupe styling is very popular right now...everyone knows it...and they can charge for it.
There is virtually zero driving difference. Some might quote the wider track of the 7 is noticeable...maybe to a professional driver. The S7 has an extra 110 lbs to haul around...again maybe not noticeable.
I think it comes down to simply, do you like the way the 7 looks $9000 more than the 6?

As a S6 owner there are things about both that I like. I like the wheel options for the S7 better they have more room for better widths than the 6 counter part. I am not. A huge fan of the frameless door windows and Everytime I get in the back of a 7 I hit my head on the roofline trying to get in. I prefer a trunk, it seems to cut cabin noise down.

I went the S6 route because I needed seating for 5 in the vehicle. Also liked the price point of the S6 better but I liked the look of the S7 better, and the wheel/tire width on the S6 is too narrow IMHO. And, after living with the S6 for almost a year, I can say that I don't miss what I thought was going to be an advantage for the A7/S7 re: the hatch...the trunk on the A6/S6 is freaking huge. Can easily swallow all the needed luggage, coolers and lacrosse gear for weekend tournaments.

FWIW, the 5th seat in the 7 is a $600 factory option.

Are you sure about that. It maybe an option for a7 but people have posted that it's not for the S7. Some have gone so far as to replace the S7 rear bench with a7 bench to get that extra seatbelt.

S6 always looked boring to me. S7 or nothing.

I had the same dilemma when I was in the market for an S6 or S7, I liked the price point of the S6 but loved the look of the S7. I really didn't want to spend the money on a car and have any regrets afterwards, so I wen't with the S7. Luckily for me I was able to find the perfect S7 with every option and color combo I wanted at a VERY good price. So the decision wasn't very tough for me. I'm glad I went with the S but these are great cars and you couldn't go wrong with either.

my experience is not exact but rs6 (9 years) to s7. Loved the form of the 7 from the first time I saw it and now in the rs7 it hasn't changed. I found the the 6 form it hasn't changed and the 4,6,8 series blends together. Now the 5 has a four door you can say the same, but the 5, 7 series are different and in my mind gorgeous. The functionality of the hatch which has more room than any suv I have owned seals the deal. 65 inch tv, 20 bags of mulch, three golf bags plus two buddies.

But again it looks like I am the only one that has had 6/7 body style experience.

I went through this same dilemma when purchasing my S6. I prefer the body lines and trunk space of the S7 (although the S6 trunk really is HUGE compared to most sedans). But I didn't like it enough to part with $9,000 for only that. I've also read about the weight and wheelbase differences, they're negligible. Also, keep in mind that the roof is much lower in the backseat of the 7s so you lose some of that practicality.

S6 I like the feeling of a sedan and I’m not a fan of the no door frame from a safety standpoint. I also don’t want to deal with leaking hatch or hydraulic issues like potentially on S7

The S7 is a great car- I only chose the S6 because I prefer sedans over hatchbacks. I must say an added benefit of the hatchback is that there is signifcantly more space in the cubbies on either side because there are no trunk arms to go through them. Bassers makes an awesome subwoofer box that fits perfectly in the passenger cubby of the A7/S7/RS7, which you can't do on the S6.

I prefer the look of the S6 over the S7, plus I want a boring looking sedan.

The critical benefit of the S6 over the S7 for me is the top down view camera, not available on the S7 body

If not for this, I would consider a RS7.

Driving my buddies RS7, felt much larger for some reason than my S6. He said the same thing when he got into my S6.. Interior space is the S6 wins as no one over 6' can really sit in the backseat of the 7. (child won't matter)

Do you need the trunkspace to be lockable? S6 trunk is maaasive and thieves can't make their way in as easily as they can by simply shattering the glass on a 7.

I do like the pillar-less, frameless windows on the 7 but children that may prove to be lots of hand smudges...

I will not argue that brakes are more expensive for the RS7 than S6 or S7....but cost can be as cheap as $2200 if you shop around and DIY.
And i currently have 18k on my RS7, brakes rotors have 70% of their usable life remaining. cant comment on pads since swapped them out at 2k (for $50 all around) with aftermarket to eliminate dusting. brake wear is subjective to the driver.

s6 looks boring, like a regular sedan. s7 has its own unique look.

when shopping, I considered the s6 just because it was cheaper. couldn't do it. went for the s7 with no regrets. much larger car though.

Nah, no where near that unless you are having the dealer do it and are swapping out your rotors very early. Closer to about $650 bucks for the pads and 45 minutes of your time.

I did a lot of research, rotors need to be done around 25,000 no matter what less if the car is driven hard and they are $4k
