What a difference a pair of quad tips makes.. So i guess the electric compressor would be an advantage over the RS5, though not enough to make up for the lighter weight/handling of the smaller chassis.

This right here is why I was waiting to pull the trigger on a CPO S7 vs new, I really don't like those rear tail lights and that V6 turbo is bleh.

Interesting. In other articles they only make mention of the electric turbo on the diesel motor with the 2.9T remaining the same as today.
    I wonder which is correct?

So will they announce the RS versions later this year now or will that not be until next year? Will that be when we finally have clarity on if the wagon will ever make its way to the US?

I like that they went with the electric compressor to help reduce turbo lag. But this confirms I made the right choice getting the 2018 with the V8TT. Having had a loaner 2019 A6 for about a week, I prefer the exterior styling of the '18 and having actual buttons instead if the finicky haptic feedback touchscreen.

My wife asked me how could we both change our climate controls at the same time with the touchscreen... First world problems

Apparently someone at audi is blowing this journalist at r&t. Funny how a v8tt is somehow less refined and slower than a v6tt?

Oh and the tdi does 0-60 in 5 sec?!! ahahahaha! Sucks for you europe.

I like the interior styling of it all, blending the MMI in nicely instead of having it always stick up like on the S4, RS5, etc. But I really wonder how intuitive all that touch screen jazz can become when the task at hand is driving.

Did you find you were getting used to it at all or was it just always out of calibration regarding muscle memory?

I had a 2019 A6 loaded for a loaner yesterday and guys wow those touch screens blow our outdated MMI rotary nobs out of the water. I could easily adjust and press things while driving and use voice commands to look for starbucks, weather, news and even voice text to my friends etc without taking my damn phone out of the pocket. Its amazing what Audi has done and I love it more than the Tesla Model S system.

The interior on the 19’s is perfect the exterior and engine not so much. Everyone’s making fun of Europe for getting the diesel but when was the last time NA got something cooler/ better than Europe? Never. I’m sure the NA engine is not going to any better...

I can't even imagine the mass exodus from Audi to BMW & Merc! What is Audi thinking?! I'll definitely buy a BMW M5 Comp or Merc E63 S! Over 600 HP and a sweet-sounding V8 TT!

Another reason the RS5 Sportback is more interesting than the new S6/S7.

The only thing the RS5 Sportback lacks is the electric compressor for enhanced turbo spool.

Those are not direct S6/S7 competitors.. It's the BMW M550i you'd have to compare to which does have the V8.

Stock v6 doesn't have much sound but my 3.0t has a full custom exhaust that I've done so much research on. The only gripe I have honestly with audi is why they don't increase the size of their engine. I would think with no force induction they'd have more engine bay to play around with. I love the idea of electric compressors making the engine more aspirated. Imagine those on our cars instead of force ind. Vrooom Yall don't have to be mean to change. Just embrace the mf. Maybe get a degree in engineering and work for audi. Instead of 2.9t make it 3.2 or 3.5

Hey mine increased a full inch from S4 to S6.

Btw the 3.0t is a good engine (I miss the sc whine and immediate throttle input) but up here it struggles compared to a v8 with turbos.

I think it looks really nice sans for the two black rectangular radar boxes on the grill........ I'm sure with a BO package, they will blend in and look considerably better. I've had the pleasure of getting to flog the new RS5 really hard at Autobahn raceway in Joliet and that 2.9L is an excellent engine. I'm still glad that I picked up my brand new 2018 S6 back in February as I'm not too keen on buying the first year of a total redesign.

For me it is not the V6 alone. I just don't think they look that much more different enough from the A series. That being said if they had the S6 Avant I'd be all over it V6 or not. I just really want a wagon and have been so spoilt by owning a car with power that it is the only type vehicle I will spend my hard earned money on.

Still I will reserve full judgement till I see one live.

Although I’m wondering if this engine has the same crappy turbo oil-feed design as the 4.0? This engine was designed and developed prior to the oil-feed filter redesign, so the same failings could have made its way into this engine. Guess we’ll find out in a few years...

How disappointing. Such a nice interior on the new cars and they drop the V8. Not to mention the slow responsive throttle that’s in both the b9 s4 and RS5. I’m sure that will carry over to the S6/7.

After 10 years I’m pretty much done with Audi. Hated BMW for many years but them and Merc are just building better sports sedans. M5 comp will be my next car.

Finally puts an end to all the dreamers that insisted that the next S6/7 would have the V8. Only the RS6/7 will have the V8 going forward. This engine shift is an upgrade for MPG and downgrade for everything else. Loss of character compared to the V8. Also, it has been proven that the V8 was significantly underrated and put out more power than than this new V6 will. Further, the V6 likely has a lot less headroom for tuning than the V8 did since it is making similar power with two less cylinders. Also, this engine is not an in house Audi creation since going forward Audi will use many Porsche sourced engine including this 2.9L V6 as well as the new 4.0L V8 in the next RS6/7. That will be off putting to some. Hopefully at least Porsche can properly engineer an oil screen unlike Audi.

Didnt you even bother to wait for RS7??? Not everyone needs an RS7 or wants an A7 but S7 falls in between..... New M5 is lame looking, inside is all trapezoid shapes and the car is very over priced for the way it looks and drives. I am done with BMW after 15 years and prefer the mature, sexier, more chiseled appearance of the Audi , better driving feel and their superior new infotainment touch screen system which blows our old MMI out of the water. Its kind of immature to make a full judgement on day 1 of the reveal without seeing actual car, driving it and deciding... or even be more patient and waiting for RS7 which is direct competitor with M5 whereas S7 is more direct towards the BMW M550.

Why does adding an electric compressor to the 3.0TDI give it an extra 100HP and 88 Lb-Ft of torque? But do the same to the 2.9T gas version and you get zero more HP and torque? I understand the reduced lag aspect, but come on...no extra power? I mean the outgoing 3.0TDI was what...248HP 428 lb-ft and this new one is 349HP and 516 lb-ft...that makes sense, but no love for the 2.9T? Is it going to get 35 mpg then with the electric compressor and mild hybrid? Magic 8-ball? "Don't count on it."

I haven’t bought a car in 2 years. But the old rs is outdated. I was considering a new S6/7 if they would have stuck with the v8. Not anymore.

You NA guys are lucky though! In Europe the S6 will be using a fucking 3.0 TDI with hybrid! A DIESEL!?!?!? And with 350hp, 100 less than the C7.5... man am I happy that I am getting a C7.5 and did not wait for the C8. There’s a shit-storm brewing over here about it, a lot of people are super disappointed. One thing is to drop the V8, but switching over to diesel? Wtf.. now this car will be nothing more than a “Competition” model.

Additionally, dno if that is also so for NA, in Europe they will be using fake exhaust tips on the C8 S6/7.

Why do I have the feeling that the C7 models will stay fairly stable in price? :D

IMO the RS5 sportback is a WAYYYYY better car. Faster, Lighter, Just as much tech, almost as nice interior, nicer exterior, RS prestige, etc. I see little to no reason to get an 85K S6 or 7 over a similarly priced RS5 sportback. I think Audi really dropped the ball on the S6/7. I understand the V6 in the RS5, but in the big and heavy Audi S6/7 RIDICULOUS! I think BMW M550 and E43 sales are about to go up!

It would easy the pain a little. Wagon S6 looks WAY better than the sedan/A7.
