    A6 C7 Brakes & Rotors

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
My 2014 A6 3.0 has around 38k on it and needs new brakes and rotors. New front ones ASAP and rear could probably make it another 5k miles - according to the dealer.

Dealer quoted me $1100 for the front and $900 for the rear.

I'm going to do this myself...I've changed pads and rotors before on other cars, just not an Audi.

I found this kit on ECS Tuning, what do you guys think about it?

    https://www.ecstuning.com/b-assemble...t4g0698151bkt/

Are the Akebono pads decent? What about the Meyle rotors? Anything else I need to know about (I have Carista so I can release the parking brake)?

    Thanks much!

I went with R1 drilled and slotted rotors with ceramic pads it cost me about $500 for everything. They work great and look cool.

They're great, I installed mine about 2 years ago and I'm just now having to swap out new pads now, so that's normal!

I went with StopTech drilled and slotted rotors and Akebano pads.
It's more expensive but I love sportier look of drilled and slotted rotors.
Pads in your combo are the same as mine.

Want an insane deal? Power Stop EBR1206XPR and EBR1209XPR rotors. Amazon has the front rotors on sale for $40! I swapped these in about 7 months ago and they have been excellent.

Shipping is like $150. Sounds like a scam to me, or at the very least a dishonest sales tactic.

Checkout Rockauto. Their prices and shipping rates are very reasonable. I used Carista to release rear brake with no issues. Worked great on my 18 S6. I happened to use Powerstop pads on my new ride because of the terrible brake dust problem. Powerstop just about has no dust and stops great. Not as good as oem, but barely noticeable. I hear Akebono are good pads too.

Eh? The ones sold and shipped by Amazon are free shipping. If you are an Amazon prime member its free 2 day shipping. Actually all 3rd party shippers of those items on Amazon has free shipping as well..

Pretty sure it's not a scam, as there is a full set on my car, and another set on a shelf in my garage once I saw the front set go on sale. Then again I do not know if prices and shipping are different if you are outside of the US which is probably the case here.

Yea I see them for $40 with free shipping as well. Is powerstop a good brand?

Exactly and I don’t want to. But just because they are less expensive doesn’t mean that more expensive is always better.

    What would you recommend?

The normal price of $160 is not bad for what I have seen of the Powerstop rotors so I wonder what is driving this sale. $80 for a pair of rotors. Solid rotors from Advanced Auto are normally about $90 each for the front 356mm units.

Price is a concern, but not at the sacrifice of quality and safety. If the power stop are crap I don’t care if they are free.

I have no idea why, but Amazon will regularly drop prices on certain things, hell I got the full set of brake pads as well for $20, which are now back up to $80. I use camelizer to track and notify when certain products go on sale and it's save me a ton of money, just have to wait it out. I kicked myself the first time as I bought the first set at full price, hopefully I will be driving the car long enough to use the second set.

As for quality, the rotors are supposed to be quite decent for a G3000 blank, and they do appear to be so. Nice machining, proper thickness/vanes/weight, fully zinc coated. They have performed great for the last 7 months over 10k miles. I will definitely update on the quality if something goes wrong, as I was expecting to get some stupid issue like warping or peanut butter pads, but so far so good.

hi guys. new to the forum and to the audi line up. just picked up a 2012 A7. is 356mm front and 330mm rear the same for A7 and A6. I realize that C7 is the platform for both but don't know where there are differences (with other parts of the car).

I'm leaning towards R1 Concepts....complete kit is around $350. Anyone else have any opinions on that brand?

It's the same for 3.0T engine. A7 with 3.0 TDI engine have smaller front rotors

Are the slotted / drilled rotors noisy ? A friend of mine had some slotted rotors on his S4 and said they were so noisy when he braked he got rid of them......( They look bad ass )

I’m going with drilled only. Not sure slotted is necessary other than they do look cool.

Which ones did you go with...Do you have the link?
My issue is at when braking I get a shutter in the left front wheel.( ONLY when breaking )
The car drives as smooth as ever, but has a low shutter when breaking...and if I'm going high speeds 80+ and and break, I get a strong shutter and grating or almost grinding noise. I'm leaning toward a warped rotor, so its time to change them.

At this point, there are MAYBE 5 foundries in the world that make rotors. 90% of the rotors today come out of the same 2 or 3 facilities in China. The majority is all comparable.

Since each rotor is directional, is the price for 1 rotor, or did the checkout price automatically double, since there are 2 in a set. It puzzles me the fronts are $40 and then the rears are $100. Is the $40 price for 1 and the $100 is for a pair? Amz description does not indicate this.

I believe this depends on the specific rotor and how it is machined, we have not had any noise issues with our StopTech slotted rotors. I would not recommend drilled or slotted / drilled as drilled tends to have odd wear patterns and can crack under hard usage.

I saw someone asked if the crossed drilled and slotted rotors are noisy, they will be at first. REMEMBER, NEW BRAKES & ROTORS NEED TO BE BROKEN IN! My car sounded like a train stopping for the first couple of days until I fully broke them in, it's multiple runs of going 50mph and braking down to 5mph do this 5 good times and they're dead silent.

Even as a daily driver - you wouldn’t recommend drilled? Know anything about R1 concepts rotors?

They are sold in pair. So $40 for two. For that front set, the shipping weight indicates 59.7 lbs. That has to be for two rotors.

I wish I didn't hesitate on the powerstop rotors sale. They are now $143

    Has anyone tried EBC rotors?

Still can't decide on the pad choice though. I've akebono before but I prefer the initial bite of hawk hps pads.
