C7.5 Matrix/Dynamic lights front and rear

OEM Tail light package has been available for a while thanks to Alex@Europrice, I had these on my 2016 S6 so had to have them on my RS7 too.

    A/S6 https://europrice.us/taillight-packa...lift-led-sedan
    A/S/RS7 https://europrice.us/taillight-packa...t-facelift-led

We have a few threads on the tail lights.
    https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...light-Packages
    https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...ght-Conversion

Tail light color on the 6 is noticeably different, light bars updated and on the 6 a different shape, the "overbite" on the pre-facelift rear is removed so there is a gap if you try to run facelift tails. A few have converted their 6 rears to full facelift, I know Madyspop did it successfully. 7 tail light shapes didnt change with facelift, just color and light bar design. Having installed both the 6 and 7 european tails the 6 is easier, less pins to deal with.

I had the OEM European 6 lights, expensive but the amber in the NA lights just sucked with with turning off the bulb. https://europrice.us/headlights-a6-s...t-facelift-led

Now the hard stuff. OEM Matrix headlights have been incredibly elusive. It's a totally different animal from what I can tell with the tail lights. If you have looked at enough lights you can tell the difference. I've been asking Alex about these since 2016, just the E-codes were expensive, the Matrix stuff is up a level.

A/S/RS6 E-Codes as many refer to them, no amber reflector/light like North American cars.

A/S/RS6 Matrix lights. The horizontal bar on the side marker area is the give away.

A/S/RS7 LED lights, fortunately for 7 owners they don't have to deal with an amber reflector/light in their housings.

A/S/RS7 Matrix lights, the design in the bezel is the give away. The LED lights look more aggressive.

Matrix headlights require windshield camera to be part of the specs, the tech was/is still pretty advanced with looking for signs and other things that would glare/reflect on the driver and of course like High Beam assist not blind on coming traffic.

Recently started nagging Alex about the Matrix lights for the 7. My email thread with him is titled - I know you're going to say no. Hahahha, I was perusing European sites and saw Kufatec items for the Matrix lights.

    7 https://www.kufatec.com/de/alle-prod...di-a7-4g-41575
    6 https://www.kufatec.com/de/alle-prod...di-a6-4g-41535

Description on the 6 says not for US cars, but the 7 does not have that same line. After trying to get the lights from Kufatec they removed the ability to put these lights in their cart. They clearly do not want to sell them, only install them at their shop. The elusive lights continue to be a strange mystery.

Alex and I didn't quit. He got a set of lights.

I found a harness for retrofitting Matrix lights, was hoping for some coding and instructions that would make it all come together. The harness does connect to the lights correctly but where they tell you to connect the far end does nothing. Their coding changes didn't make the lights work either. https://www.k-electronic-shop.de/AUD...Kabelsatz.html

My coding before theirs, not putting their stuff out there cause it didn't work for me anyhow.

Testing outside of the car, Alex didn't want me to dismantle and end up reversing all the work if we failed.

After Alex dug in, we have light!

    Tearing into the car.

Happy with the outcome. Have matching Dynamic sweep all round now and something I've wanted to try to get done for a while. Here's a walk around, sorry for shaky cam I'm not a videographer. These are definitely not plug and play if you get your hands on some.

Do you have the full functionality of the matrix led headlights?

I believe so, saw the lights dim around a street sign reducing the reflection last night. Don't know if there is a test sequence or not that can be done, there are no error codes and Auto high beam works still so all electronics are happy.

That’s sweet. Shine them on a wall and have a friend shine a flashlight back at them like the girls in the video. See if a segment turns off.

Any idea on doing this for a pre-facelift car? I'm assuming pre-facelift would also have to retrofit the camera as well

I was hoping for more of a story after testing the lights!

Was there some additional secret modules you had to get or was it all coding? Just curious...I have pre-fl and have the europrice tails and that was enough cost :) The sweeping front looks awesome.

ACC cars have a camera already, I needed to check for some pins there but didn't need to do anything with the actual camera.

Think the B9s are less of a mixed bag of models/cars/build codes compared to the C7s. We have so many variants its crazy.

No secret or external non Audi module needed. Coding and calibration, VCDS while pretty helpful for enthusiasts is not on the same level as ODIS. I haven't dug into what exactly the pre-facelift lights can do or not. Have seen pre-facelift dynamic sweeping front on youtube but don't know if someone modified the lights or did some other sorcery.

First off, big thanks to Viet (Widebodyfx) for being intrepid and trusting me enough to dive into the project.

The real trick on the matrix lights, and the end stumbling block we've all run into, is the final calibration/aiming which VCDS, VCP nor OBD11 seem to be able to do as of yet. The ODIS software and a VAS5054A clone tool is used to do this. Since installing ODIS is a bit of a pain and getting a clone VAS5054A interface to work can be frustrating as all hell I've come up with a novel way of making it so all a customer/installer needs to is have a good VAS5054A clone interface on hand, no installing ODIS, which also by the way is a rather large program (around 16GB) or learning how to use the somewhat clunky interface.

Pre-facelift models are going to require a full facelift and extensive rewiring as the lights and range systems behave in totally different ways between pre and post-facelift C7 models. Even having been involved in regular LED pre to post-facelift conversions was frustrating and extensive for the headlights. Not recommended for the faint of wallet, time or wiring/coding knowledge.

I am already receiving PM's and emails. The A6, S6, A7, S7 and RS7 models with LED headlights now can have the matrix headlights fitted, this applies to North American and Rest of World models. At the moment using lightly used or headlights from testing models works easiest and I can supply those on an availability basis, costs will vary based on availability. I will offer the needed wiring parts, the VAS5054A clone interface, the needed software, installation instructions and the remote support as part of a package separately as well.

The range of costs on lightly used matrix headlights for these models seems to vary quite a bit, $3000 to $5000 or so.

For those who want brand new headlights and modules this then requires use of VCP to flash the new modules. I will also be supplying a kit that is all new and has instructions for flashing the modules with VCP and the interface at a discount. The all new setup does mean having two separate interfaces, but so far it's the only way to do it.

Pricing on the VAS5054A, software, installation instructions and remote support will be set in the next week or so.

It's not a terrible install, but there are some complexities to it and the lights technically should be aimed with a proper device that dealerships will start getting in soon since matrix lights are available on newer models. The final aiming can be eyeballed/estimated fairly well and the full matrix functionality is available.

Stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks!

Thanks again to Viet for being an awesome customer and willing participant in the testing process, plus letting me have it with coding and other remote procedures that worked like a charm!

Alex, happy to help guinea pig stuff and thank you for not giving up! You've always been a straight shooter, come through on an order and delivered exactly as you say you will. Chasing the rare or uncommon can be fun, especially when it works out. Need to try that other retrofit soon.

Nice one Alex and Viet! :)
Ps: dynamic sweep on prefacelift is possible, but the lights need to be opened and every led must be reconnected to a module. Hardware wise not so expensive i think (one could maybe get those cheap china dynamic mirror blinkers....). One day i might ask a friend but bussy with other project. Also not so happy to open and waterproof close the headlights.
Anyway, swedish guy/shop is doing it but you need to ship lights offcourse. A 700€ job if i recall...

I've started building my lights with modules from a company called Ghozt Lighting. I think I spent maybe $350 on everything. That's a ton of new leds and modules for the front and rear, as well as the cables needed to program it myself. I'll post pictures once I get back around to that part of the build.

How involved is the coding for the updated taillight packages? (Pre facelift specifically) Are they VCDS beginner friendly?

The taillight packages have step by step instructions to change adaptation values with VCDS. Not all that complex at all.

Alex- is it possible to create a package if we choose to buy the lights used, or from another vendor, but still get all the other required components/services you include in your packages?

Customers have used OBD11 to do the adaptation changes. I have not personally used OBD11 so I am not sure on the interface, but as long as you can enter into a module and go into the adaptations to change values you should be good to go.

I am figuring out how to structure these packages. Complete used lights with all flashed modules will be the simplest install. Then there may be people that have used housings but need modules so that will require flashing the modules. For some models that can be done here, for others that will require the customer buying VCP to flash at home. Then every customer would receive remote calibration so they do not have to do a lot of installing and tinkering of software.

These packages will be announced when they are available.

Been busy since this mod. In the city it doesn't engage, on the freeway/highway away from too many street lamps it does engage pretty consistently. Trippy!

Dimming around cars is visible, not sure if I can capture it on a camera well but I'll try sometime.
Lighting up peripheral areas to the sides and high positioned things like freeway signs is visible too, the more centered in front of the car the sign is the more you can see the dimming. The dimming without following the steering wheel or road is weird part if you're looking for it.
Pulling up to intersections and the camera sees the high positioned red lights it disables immediately.

The auto matrix high beam does not activate (or will deactive) when their is enough ambient light (street lights), or when you are below a certain speed.

It will deactivate below 60km/h (35-40mph). I think you can adjust that with VCDS. For the street light, it’s deactivating because it’s illegal to use high beams in many european countries if the streets are lit up properly.

I have to say even though my car is a 2015 (one of the earliest face-lift A7's) I am so impressed with the Matrix LED headlights. I have never driven a car with better lighting!

Totally agree. Amazing lights and no other car I have driven matches them also.

I did change my LED to Matrix, but i got errors:

In 55 i got fault: U1121 Databus Missing Message.
All is working, but i got information about fault on the dasch. Turn signals blinking but not like should (fom one side to other).
Can you help mi with coding?.

    For 09 i got: 0105001104389FF0B90040C780007800CF9CC208A608022180 00081C7110370300600134030000

Sorry Jarous, I don't have any info that helps you. When plugging in the Matrix lights the turn signal will DTC and flash fast on the dash like a bulb is missing. For the headlight turn signal, without the 12v signal from the new connector/wires needed the sweep will not happen.

Drove through an area last night where the Matrix lighting could easily engage, wow the lights are crazy. I'll get a video of it from the driver's seat, this is an expensive retro but so worth it beyond the rarity of it.

Used my DJI Gimbal. Didn't set the video resolution right on the road recording, 720 but you can see the Matrix lighting in action. Dimming around cars in front of you and anticipating cars on the other side of the freeway. Road shoulder is a noticeable area it brightens up.

That's really neat, super cool watching it move the lighting around in real time! How does it compare to your eyes versus the standard US LED lights? I find the stock C7.5 LED headlights to be really good generally speaking.

Without the system engaged the low beams are just like standard LED, the Matrix banks are where the high beams would be on the standard lights. It's probably more noticeable in person compared to the video, but I of course want to make myself feel better for the coin.
