    Lowering springs-ZERO regrets!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So a few months ago I purchased JHM's Q5 specific lowering springs. The drop honestly exceeded my expectations because It looks SO much lower! I even had a friend of mine come to me saying they didn't notice my car in the parking lot because they were not looking for a car so low-WHAA. I 'll take it! It gave a lower drop than other brands of springs I was looking at. It is a 2" inch drop ALL around which was why I went with these ones. The comfort was also a concern to me, wondering how that would end up but it didn't compromise the ride at all. Def a plus with two children and a dog jumping in and out of it several times a day.

Ive had a few people ask me to link them so I'll drop it right here https://jhmotorsports.com/lowering-s...b8-q5-sq5.html

Hows the ride compared to stock in terms of rebound control (assuming your on stock shocks)? The stock setup definitely has a sense of unevenness going over bumps, just not firm.

Is it advised to get aftermarket shocks with these (I know with the H&R's it is highly recommended)

I’ve had and been in many lowered vehicles before and this setup is by far the most comfortable I’ve ever had. I have a lot of old beat up country roads around my house and my Q5 just glides over them with these springs. They were designed with the factory shocks in mind so I don’t have to upgrade the shocks if I don’t want to which I thought was awesome. I was going to get H&R originally as I’ve had them on other vehicles, but I wanted a slightly lower stance so I went with JHM. So glad I did. Extremely worth it AND I saved money over the H&R Springs.

Very interested in your new spring setup, I have a 2010 Q5 that I have installed a B12 Bilstein kit with eibach springs. They have given me a much better stability and direction control but the ride is similar to original. Do the new springs you have installed give you a lot better ride on rougher surfaces than the standard springs or are they similar, but better than most lowering/other springs. Could you also measure from ground level to the top of the wheel arch, Mine is 30''. I know ride quality is a bit subjective and its hard to give an accurate description, but comparing the new with the old can give a good indication. I think its the new shocks that have improved the stability, but I would replace the springs if it would improve the ride. What year/model is your Q5?

Its 30" as well but I read the exact center of the wheel is the best apples to apples comparison unless you have the exact same diameter wheel and tire combo with sand amount of treadwear, etc.

The ride is fairly similar to stock and I think it feels great!

Thanks for your reply, I will keep the Eibach springs that came with the kit, no point in spending more money for the same result, its not bad, just though the progressives may have softened the rid a bit more. I think the original height of mine may have been a bit lower than yours as its an Australian model, it looks good at the height it is now, just a slight forward rake.

I asked for them to be shortened, the workshop manager said they were there for a reason, I never did get to see the bits that were cut off so, I am not 100% sure they did cut them. I can check the back ones fairly easily, so will do that

Even on an SQ5? I don’t like the idea of shortening the bump stops. They are progressive, so cutting a chunk off doesn’t sounds ideal.

Yes. Any hardware you choose will require replacement stops or that your trim the existing ones.

Not to poop a party, but keep in mind that - regardless of springs - using OEM dampers with shorter springs = shorter damper life. You're compressing those shocks before they take a bump. Over time the seals will degrade and you will notice the impact to ride quality. Take a nasty enough bump and you risk ruining the shock entirely.
