Paint flaking off Black Sport Exhaust Tips

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Finally got a chance to clean up the sport exhaust tips after a long winter, and to my dismay the paint is flaking off the tips, mostly along the bottom edge. It is noticeable 6 feet away. Car was built May 2018, garage kept everyday.

I know that this a common problem. How are folks dealing with this? Is Audi replacing the mufflers? Would the same issue just come back again?

Has anyone touched the chips up?

A metal, polishable tip is looking pretty attractive right now. Stupid decision to paint the tips of the sport exhaust; another day, another Audi quality issue.

Don’t wash them? That way the carbon will cover up the chips.

They replace the entire exhaust not just the tips.

It’s from salt. I washed mine every couple weeks and they’re still ok. From what I have seen here Audi will replace it but it will just happen again if you don’t coat them before winters or wash them a lot.

I haven't replaced mine yet because seems like a waste...maybe I'll wait before my 50k warranty is up and try.

    Just need to cerakote it.

I think your mild BC climate is probably easier on them. I wash my car often and Winnipeg uses mostly sand rather than salt. It's actually too cold for salt to work.

12 months in. California, no salt, no sand, regular washing. Tips holding up.

The paint on the tips are flaking for me as well.
Car is 1 year old. Garaged every night. Cleaned every 2-3 weeks and yet this happened.
