Engine start blocked by immobilizer P1570

I've had an intermittent engine starting issue ever since I've had the car but it seems to get better and worse seemingly randomly. I usually leave the key in and wait till the immo light turns off before starting the car, since if it starts flashing the engine wont stay on. There may be times where I wont have an issue for months, while other times I'll have it happen a couple times a day.

I recently got a vcds cable and the only code relating to the immobilizer was"Engine start blocked by immobilizer P1570". The car only came with one key so I have not been able to see if the valet key works better or not.

I've heard that the reader coil wires can become loose and I have noticed moving the steering wheel exacerbates the problems. how would I fix this if it was the problem? Are there other common immobilizer issues that may be relevant? I'd like to avoid getting a new key if possible as I've heard it's not the cheapest at the dealerships...

    Thanks for the help!

Most common culprit is the coil reader around the ignition switch. This is actually the aerial. Replace this, clear codes and test.

Would the coil reader be separate from the ignition barrel? would replacing the coil require any additional programming? I would assume not since its just the sensor but you never know with VAG vehicles

I've also read that the wires going to the coil and/or the switch that tells the ecu the key is being turned can sometimes go bad, but they all seem to be localized in the same area so I would imaging they would all require taking the steering wheel/ lower steering column cover off.

The coil reader can be replaced separately from the lock cylinder.

They are generic, not coded to any particular vehicle, so they are plug and play.

It's threads like this that makes me want to DE-immobilize my car. It's doubtful anyone is going to be stealing a $2500 car.

I'm not sure If I would deimmobilizer the car over that. But with that said I havent had any issues with mine whats so ever.

Yeah I imagine its just something silly like a loose wire, but it is pretty inconvenient when the engine stalls multiple times and people start coming over thinking your car is broken . As far as I'm aware deleting the immobilizer would allow the engine to remain running but the dash light will still flash which would still get on my nerves haha.

I have not seen many threads that go into detail about these issues, and the few ones that talk about it are from 10 years ago and not entirely relevant anymore.

Do you have the original cluster in the car or is it a different one?
Asking because I've had this happen to me twice now, I have an S4 cluster in my car. Was able to start the car after pulling the battery, then unplugging the connectors on the cluster and plugging them back in. Now I just keep the original cluster in my trunk to be safe lol

I haven't personally changed the cluster, and it looks pretty stock looking so I doubt it was changed by the previous owner. I would imagine the no start would be a constant issue if the ecu was not properly matched to the cluster, but my problems are very intermittent.

I've disconnected the battrey plenty of times, but never disconnected the cluster, so I might try that.

I also had this when I first started my new engine, unplugging and reseating the connection to the ecu solved it. If your cluster and ecu aren’t communicating properly you’ll always get this code.

Try cleaning the connections on the ECU and the cluster too, maybe with some contact cleaner and a brush. Idk 🤷

Done properly (i.e. via VCDS or similar), this ^^ would not be the case.

I haven't either, save for the time I lost my only key and couldn't drive my car home even after getting a new (physical) key from Audi. I won't make the mistake again of having only one key, but an Immobilizer failure of some kind I can't really control. I just don't know if it's a small or minuscule chance of a problem occurring.

You can't disable the immobilizer via VCDS.

Oh, right, I mis-spoke. I'd need to use VAG EEPROM 1.19 I suspect, same thing I used to find my SKC.
