    warranty on high mileage cars?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have an option to get a full warranty on my 11 A4 P+ Quattro, currently at 125k miles and the tensioner was not updated.

Should I get a warranty through carchex that covers everything, with 100 deductible for 3yr/36000 miles for 130/month for 24 months?

seems better than just getting the chain fixed.

    thoughts?

i think all after market warranties are suspect.
To me the only worthwhile warranty is CPO .

your engine could go tits up for 12G from Audi and warranty company says here is your max 2G on your claim .. goodbye..

warranties at that mileage are not worth much. they deny just about everything. there are too many loopholes. No re course for you unless you go to court. years of your life, and good luck getting paid anyway. The money and energy spent trying to get your money you could have saved anyway.

My car came with the fidelity warranty (I believe it was offered through Audi at the time), and it just covered a HPFP with zero issue. Service advisor handled the warranty claim. That said, I definitely would not pay the $3800 myself for a warranty like the previous owner did.

Granted my car has 55k miles, so it's probably a different story when you get into the higher mileage vehicles.

Who actually administers the warranty? Carchex has 4 different administrators on their website and it seems they all have different contracts.

I opened one and it has some wonderful language like this:

"The total cost of the repair and/or replacement must not exceed two hundred fifty dollars ($250.00). For any repair or replacement with a cost exceeding two hundred fifty dollars ($250.00), YOU must obtain ADMINISTRATOR’S prior authorization as set forth above or any amount in excess of two hundred fifty dollars ($250.00) will not be covered and will be YOUR responsibility."

"FOR REPAIR COSTS OR EXPENSES IF YOU CANNOT PROVIDE TO THE ADMINISTRATOR ACCURATE RECORDS PROVING THAT YOU HAVE MAINTAINED THE VEHICLE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE MANUFACTURER’S SPECIFICATIONS AND INSTRUCTIONS, OR IF ANY MECHANICAL OR ELECTRICAL ALTERATIONS HAVE BEEN MADE TO THE VEHICLE OR IF THE VEHICLE IS USED IN A MANNER NOT RECOMMENDED BY THE MANUFACTURER, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, THE FAILURE OF ANY CUSTOM ADD-ON/AFTERMARKET PART, REGARDLESS IF INSTALLED BY YOU OR A FRANCHISE DEALER OR ANY FRAME, LIFT KIT OR SUSPENSION MODIFICATIONS, THE USE OF OVERSIZED/UNDERSIZED TIRES, INSTALLATION OF HEADER PIPES, REMOVAL OF ANY EMISSION CONTROL PARTS SYSTEM, OR ALTERATIONS TO HYBRID DRIVE SEQUENCE, INCLUDING DISABLING ANY PART OF THE SYSTEM."

I had the same extended warranty company when I purchased my A4. I got my money's worth out of it and some. Claims took some time, but i didnt have much hassle with it. It was well worth it for me.

OP - read the terms of the policy.

Warranties are for cars you buy brand new. For used cars you buy tools.

What’s difficult to understand about this? Don’t like it? Go buy a Toyota then. Simple as that. Don’t own a high mileage Audi if your not willing AND ABLE to pay the upkeep. Foreign concept to some who live above their means.

Just put $150 a month into a savings account. When something happens you'll have funds to fix it.

Also get the chain/tensioner fixed asap. It's gonna be expensive but it's still cheaper than a new engine. Get a quote from an indy shop not the dealership.

I think what is trying to be said is its not really warranty . Its insurance
If it works great and if i thought it was iron clad i would do it.
Warranty is there as a competitive offering that all manufacturers carry ti give you peace if mind
Insurance is there to make the company money, as long ss you understand the difference and have read every detail you are good to go.

It really depends on who the warranty provider is. I paid 5000$ for my 4 years 60,000km and it was worth every penny.

    Two wheel bearings
    Engine Timing Chain
    Two Control Arms
    Engine Mounts
    Door Latches & Latch Sensors
    Steering Hose & Pump

Easily paid for itself and was peace of mind.

Damn, what do you have up your ass?

In my particular situation, I added an extended warranty when I purchased my A4 in 2010. As I already mentioned, it paid for itself and some. Currently I am at 121k and beyond that warranty. I maintain my vehicle on my own without issue.

There isn't anything to "get". Its a very blanket statement that had many variables associated.

If the extended warranty had good terms and covers most of the vehicle, why would it be a bad deal? It seems like you are implying that once a car is over 100k you need to do all the work yourself and that's that.
