Exclamation What mods to do first for the RS3?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi all,

In the process of waiting for my RS3 and I am putting together an upgrades list. I won't be able to do all the upgrades at once, but this is the order I came up with and I wanted to hear your thoughts. It seems tires and a tune would make the most sense, but should I do a tune so soon after getting it? If there are anything you would suggest that isn't on this list, let me know.

    1) Tint
    2) Tire / Suspension / Wheels
    3) Exhaust / Midpipes
    4) Stage 1 Tune
    5) MISC (Spoiler, headrests, gauges, badges, etc)

Let me know your thoughts. And for anyone that is waiting for their 2019, let me know what you guys plan on getting!

    Thanks.

definitely get one of the Front mount intercoolers for our car as you will see after driving the stock RS3 that the power isn't consistent due to heat soak. Our stock intercooler is tiny and not sufficient at all. Just watch once you upgrade that alone you'll see the consistency when doing spirited driving!

I got my armrest rewrapped in Alcantara, never got or cold, always right temp.

Don't forget the mid pipes and intake for the sound

With my s3 being a lemon im gonna take it easy at first .

1- whole car ppf or wrapped haven't decided yet . Tints done at the same place along with putting on the OEM carbon fiber spoiler I had for my s3

2- mid pipes to enjoy the stock performance exhaust a bit more

3- try and get aFe to make me an oem sized dry flow intake filter

4- center console refinished in real carbon fiber to add more of a carbon look on the inside / also like the Alcantara armrest idea

5- Forged wheels 19's or 18's ?/ Tires and MSS suspension

6- after " break In " start looking into the JB4 piggyback to NOT void warranty

Then I'll just enjoy the car for the summer and slowly start planning the next list of things to do for spring .

I live in lovely California. I'm not even sure of the laws for intercoolers here, but I doubt they have my car in mind. I've done research and I haven't found a straight answer.

There is no law against an intercooler upgrade in CA.

    4. Michelin ps4s and BBS

    6. Intercooler, throttle body, inlet upgrades

    To be done this year:
    1. Rotor upgrade

    Yea, seriously.

First thing would be to drop the car off at Iroz. Go IMS850 with built engine then call it a day.

On a more serious note, if you are ever planning on going stage 2 I would consider waiting on midpipes and exhaust to be done at the same time you get a downpipe, t make sure they all fit with each other.

If I had it all to do over again, I would have dropped it off at Iroz and saved myself the money in the long run! That or talk to Unitronic because it looks to me they are going to support many different upgraded Turbo/hybrid platform options so you can choose what suites your needs best.

    Yes, I agree.

My 710h comes in the mail today! Woohoo!

Oh yea and to the OP, since you live in cali, you can easily drive to Vegas for Iroz motorsports to get all the work done. Its pretty neat to be at the mecca for the Audi 5cylinder. I had them do al of my Stage 2 work. I do not have time to drive out there this time around so I will have a local shop install the 710h.

I would be glad to answer any questions if you are considering Unitronic for your new RS3 !

I want an upgraded turbo so bad I can taste it! I told myself I wanted a full weight 10s DD and I would slow down on spending money on mods but high 10's vs low 10's is a huge different! I am ready for hybrid/big turbo, I just haven't fully done the research and it looks like my choice of tuning company was not right for me in the long run. I never thought, I would feel so relatively safe upgrading the turbo or would not care about the re-sale value when I picked APR for my tuning platform.

How different in hp will your Stage 2 be from the 710h with your same mods? Do you know what kind of 60-130 different you should expect from your 710h? Why 710h vs big turbo if you feel like sharing?!

My Stage 2 dynoed at about 514whp 550 ftlb tq on E85. Supposedly the 710h will put down around 650whp. We shall see.

Reason I di not go 780h or ims850 is that to maximize the power of those two turbos, I would need to build the engine. I do not have money to build the engine at this point. Plus, this car is mainly daily driven and I did not want to have to be at a slightly higher rpm to extract the power.

That being said, maybe I will be ims850 in a year or so if I can save up money. I always tell jared he is like a crack dealer. Instead of drugs I am always hitting him up for quotes and parts. Lord knows the parts and labor seem Just as expensive as buying drugs.

You and me both. Feels like I am at a bind as $ invested with one tuning company is so big.

I would have liked to get the full replacement piece with printing, but didn’t want to drop over 1K on it. I got a skin kit from an Ebay seller (kust-trim). Overall happy with the weave as it matches the stock well, it’s just a little off around the start button.

Would you mind taking a picture looking into the car? Door open? I wanted to see what it looked like from a distance if that makes sense. See how it matches up to the rest of the trim in the car.

    Thank you!

What are the complications with going this route? I assume this will not pass SMOG when the time comes? I'm trying to mod it enough where when the time comes, I don't need to strip the thing down.

Not all of us need to share the same modding journey. That's the joy of modding. You can do it your own way.

Mine made 507whp 505wtrq on Unitronic Stage 1+ E85. In my opinion, this is the best route to go for power. You just need colder sparkplugs and the tunes and you'll be running 11 seconds flat 1/4 mile times on oem wheels and tires, full weight. FB_IMG_1605489715887.jpg
