I got a set of wheels from a newer A4 but the hub size is bigger than mine. This is my first time encountering something like this. Is it safe to drive or how can this be fixed/solved?

    Here's a chart of sizes..

B7 is 57.1mm, B8 is 66.56mm. You ill need hubrings to not have vibrations.

Technically, if the wheel is installed properly, you don't need rings as weight isn't on the ring. Improper install will cause vibration.

Technically, yes. In practice, you're generally going to get vibrations.

OP buy an aluminum hub ring adapter, the plastic ones sometimes don't center right and are easy to damage.

In an ideal world, probably. Though I would say fitting a wheel with clearance between the centre bore and hub amounts to an improper install.

But as the lug holes are slightly larger than the lug shanks, one is unlikely to bolt the wheel on dead centre. The weight of the wheel will ultimately cause the wheel to sag downwards. It is possible to centre the wheel the way you would do a clutch, by “eye’, but in general practice, it’s not practical to do so, especially on 4 wheels.

Hubcentric rings are cheap enough, I would rather go that route than have to wrestle with a wheel each time it’s removed.

There is hub-centric and lug-centric. Our cars are hub-centric, meaning the lip on the hub is machined to be true center. Therefore a properly installed wheel should have a properly sized inner bore. Getting it right based on the lugs is pure luck and can't be a reliable method.

On a lug-centric hub, true, the centering ring is not necessary. Not the case here.
