Less than 5k on the RS no mods, been in the shop for a week. Anybody else had this error?

    Probably just me.

Got one similar a few months back, it stated engine output was restricted to 3000RPM. I didn't have my VCDS in the car so I cleared it with the APR feature using the stalk just to see if it would return indicating a real issue. Wish I had been able to scan it to see the code but it never came back. Happened right after I switched from the E85 map to the 91 tune. Got a generic CEL last week after switching from the E85 back to 91, scanned that one and showed a generic P21F4. Just figure both times was a result of the last E85 in the lines going through on the 91 octane tune.

It's been a week and they don't have a diag yet?

I had it before with my TTS on track when I turned off the traction control and got a little loose but not close to out of control.

I think it reset itself or I reset the code

Yeah, restricted RPM and this code showed up on my dash cam which is tied to the obII slot.

You google it and it’s gives you a lot of potential issues. It’s not a loose wire or anything that they can clear and it doesn’t immediately come back.

Happened to once on my TTS. Not sure what caused it exactly but perhaps it was due to me changing drive select from one setting to the next too quickly then coming to a stop light and i tried taking off (no launch control). It hesitated during acceleration then that error came on. I pulled over into neighborhood, shut off the car. Did search on Google and most stated that turning off car for few min then back on would clear it. Which thank goodness it did. Car behaved normal since. I did scan with jb4 and ob11 and came back with no codes

You mean like this one? Here's the situation: Did the Bikeweek parade down A1A and toward the end, this happened....never happened before....I'm wondering if the oil temp is too high? Car ran normal other than that. I pulled over after a bit of the traffic cleared and air was going through the radiators and oil cooler....stopped at gas station. Shut off car, restarted....everything back to normal. When I got home, I started the car couple times and all is normal although when I rev'd it, it would only go up to 4,000 rpms...that may be normal but first time I noticed it. BTW, that is with the warning gone and the car rev'd above that coming home after the restart.

Had something similar happen one day when playing in the snow. Turned it off. Let it sit for a few mins and then turned it back on and all was fixed. Never seen it again *knock on wood*

UPDATE: Code was fuel rail pressure issue...there is a service bulletin about it and a software update to fix.

I just got an update on mine....somehow the rocker arm attached to the camshaft is bent. 7-10 business days for the parts to come in. This is after days of replacing a laundry list of parts pursuant to the advice of Audi TAC to no avail. The dealership happened to come across this while replacing other parts.

Who knows if this will solve the issue. Pretty disappointed for such a new low mileage car.

Not a car guru. So maybe this isn’t a big deal but seems serious to me after searching YouTube for replacing a camshaft.

Yeah, bent rocker arm is fairly serious. Just a risk of owning extremely complicatedly engineered and designed vehicles. Basic manufacturing margin of error, stamp out 100,000 rocker arms and some of them are going to have undetectable fatigue at the subatomic level. It's what warranty's are for.

Sucks that it happened man but at least it's being taken care of.

At first the guys at the Audi Dealership thought it could be the battery. I’ll see what it is and let you know.

For what it’s worth, finally picked up my RS today after a month in the shop. After replacing a bevy of parts, they discovered the rocker arm on the exhaust camshaft had fallen off. Anyways, been driving Audi’s for almost twenty years and first mechanical problem I’ve ever had and of course it had to be the one in a million kinda problem.

    Full write up in picture.

Wow, it sound like you have a very good tech there. Why a month though?

The initial fixes were try one thing, didn’t work, have to order parts, wait a day, try the next item. Then rinse and repeat.

Until the discovered the real problem.

The final part parts, the camshaft, rocker arm etc had to come from Germany. Ten business days to get those in. Took three days once the final parts came in to complete the repair.

A majority of it was just waiting for parts.

I going to assume that you don't have an aftermarket tune on the car. My experience on a couple occasions albeit different brands is that dealers instantly blame the tune and refuse to diagnose the issue even when it turns out to be something freakish like this that could not possibly be related to a software change.

Yep. No engine mods or tunes of any kind. The dealership said they’d never seen anything like this on a car with so few miles on the engine.

Not even a week has gone by since picking up my car and a new problem as reared it’s ugly head.

Not sure if this is related to any of the repairs made but certainly not confidence building that this is not going to be a recurring thing.

Is your gas cap snug? Hopefully that's all it is, or they just forgot to hook up something along the evap system.

I’m assuming the RS is the same as the S and we don’t have gas caps.

I would have known that if Audi didn't screw me out of a 2018. Don't mind me.

Ironically, I'm getting it on my 2022 now too. It goes away after turning off the car and restarting. I'll try to get it scanned this week to see what it is.
