    DSG Rebuilding near Chicago?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Anyone have a good experience with a shop near Chicago? I have the dreaded gearbox malfunction on my 2011 at 111,000 miles. Dealer changed mechatronics unit but the problem persists. They say next stop is trans replacement. I'm looking for a shop that can repair or rebuild mine since i already have the new mechatronics unit.

You could have a short in your gear position sensor. I have 2010 with 150K and also replaced mechatronic, though that ended up being the last thing I needed to do to get the transmission running smoothly. The first thing I did was replace gear position sensor, which unfortunately involves removal of the engine and tranny to get at it. I had the work done at Import Motors in Schaumburg. It took a while (weeks) but they did a great job.

Ok. The car works fine cold. Once it warms up it has a problem with 1st. Sitting stopped causes a bang into first. Once it's in 1st, the car drives great. Shifts fast and no slipping. You experience something similar?

    What did this cost?

Apologies on brevity here. Just had lengthy response disappear. Don't have time to include all again. My biggest issue were symptoms listed here. https://testing-public.carmd.com/Tsb...110921/A351622. Slam into 1st from 2nd during slow rolling stop in hot rush hour commute most pronounced as well as losing half the gears while driving hwy speed.
labor on trans removal and gear sensor module replace $2100. I had other things done while engine out too so saved some labor costs on that. Parts cost 1300. Sourced from ECS though I would shop at https://parts.audiusa.com/ as many dealers discount. Muskegon Audi frequently cheapest. Got mechatronic from St Paul Audi for "only" $1816. Same sort of prices as https://www.audidirectusa.com/ though can be less and ship faster/closer. They also walnut blasted for me subsequent to the gear repairs. Running great now and running EPL engine and TCU tunes no issues. Good luck.

Thanks for the retype. It's the worst when you lose your work. I will do some research base on what you provided. Sounds similar but i don't seem to lose gears at speed (yet). It's always faulted after sitting stopped. It slams into 1st and gear malfunction will appear. Only once it's warmed up. Shut it off and back on, warning disappears and car works fine until next extended stop (red light).

My selector sensor died too... would have cost me 4+k but I got it down to $2500 with a friend and getting parts at cost.
