    Dealer Rotated Staggered Tires

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I went in to get an oil change on 12/14/2018 at 5,000 miles (I took delivery on 7/21/2018). When done the service adviser went over what was done. He mentioned rotated tires (it also shows on my invoice). I stopped him and mentioned the staggered tires on the Dynamic Package. He said that since that is the case the techs would have known not to rotate them. I assumed mentioning rotating the tires was the standard speech and that it was standard to show on the invoice as well. I believed that explanation and went on my way. I started noticing the traction control kicking in really easily and power getting pulled under light highway acceleration and heavy acceleration in dry conditions. I told myself that it MUST have been doing this since I had taken delivery and I just didn't remember. Also, it sounded like what a lot of you describe on here. Even though it really made me rethink purchasing this car at times I wrote it off as an inherent quark and was going to ask them to check things at the next service. I don't know why but this evening I thought to check my tires. Sure enough 235/35/R19 on the fronts and 255/30/R19 on the rears. I called and was just told to stop by sometime and they will re-rotate the tires.

I have some questions for you guys.
    - Can this have caused undue tire wear? I'm not the type to demand a new set but maybe a discount on the next set or something if it may have caused extra wear.
    - Should I be concerned about drive line components?

Also, consider this a heads up for anyone hating their car because of the frequent inability to pass the random Fusion or being made look like an idiot by a base Mustang on the highway. If you have had it in for service go check your tires.

Don’t worry about uneven tire wear or other parts. You didn’t change diameter of rotating mass. Just the contact area.

Staggered is really just for handling. Actually standard RS3 is 235 for both front and rear.

To answer you question, I think this totally stupid thing they did to you car is causing the issue you are experiencing. I don't think it would have caused any issue with the tires. It really goes to show you that some of these technicians are not paying attention or know this particular product / model. Audi should never have done something so stupid. I would definitely complain to the service manager and make him or her aware of this oversight. Given the issues it is giving you it could have caused an accident if you need to accelerate of move out of the way quickly. Thank God you have an even temper, my reaction would be a little less nice. Truly really surprised ...

Sounds good. It makes sense since the traction control freaking out is usually with some throttle plus steering input such as accelerating while changing lanes. From other threads it seems that is a quark of this car but it wasn't an issue I noticed until the tire rotation. Perhaps this just made the issue a little more likely to happen.

It actually did make me miss my usual exit once. Luckily I am pretty even tempered and am just fine driving till the next exit if I can't make the usual one. I was more embarrassed, I hit the gas, the usual 5 cylinder awesome sounds happened but she fell on her face and the Fusion next to me probably thought I was an idiot. :) The base Mustang on the other hand... I'm sure there is an internet post about how the RS3 couldn't hang. :)

Honestly I would get your car checked for other issues first. I don’t know how 235 on the front would give you traction issue or falling flat on hwy pull when standard RS3 is 235 square.

Other people complained about traction issue was folks without stock tires. They all had staggered OEM size Michelin PS4s. Never had this issue with my square PS4S 255. Maybe it is a quirk of RS3 as you mentioned.

I had the issue with the OEM staggered tires in the correct orientation and the tires had less than 1000 miles on them. It definitely was not a legitimate traction issue. I started always driving with traction control off...problem solved.

Yeah I agree. It really should not be traction issue. This car is not 700hp stock. Even 235 should be fine handling power on normal condition.

The dealer installed my wheels wrong twice. First they reversed one side, front at rear and rear and front and I told them so. Then they put both fronts at the rear and vice versa. Staggering incompetence, lol.
