Check Engine light randomly came in - Code P2096

So I haven't driven my RS7 in probably 2 weeks. Was away for work. Finally took it for a short road trip today, 90 miles or so, and after about 50 miles in, I opened her up to triple digit speeds. (Reminded me of how awesome this car is). Everything was fine. Ran very good. Slowed down to cruising speed and the check engine light randomly came in. No warning on the dash or mmi, just the light. This is the first time the check engine light has ever come on for me.

Made it home fine and let it sit for probably about an hour. Turned it back on and the light was still on, so I scanned it. 1 Fault found. P2096. Looked online and it said air/fuel mixture was too lean on cylinder 1.. I erased the code, then took it for a short drive. Hasn't come back on.

Do I have anything to worry about? I'm thinking maybe I got bad gas, or maybe one of my fuel injectors is clogged? Should I run a bottle of fuel injector cleaner through it? I'll take it to the dealer if I have to, but part of me is hoping it was just a rare occurence. Open to your thoughts and opinions.

Did this code ever return for you? I just had it pop up for the second time. First time it cleared after 24 hours but this time its at 48 hours. Just trying to see what steps to take first. Thanks

Funny the CEL came up on my RS7 last Wed, same day I got a full tank of gas from Costco. Everything runs fine so I've just been monitoring this week.

Light is still on so I stopped by AutoZone to check the code and also got P2096. Sent to my mechanic and will see if I should bring in for a look.

Keep you posted on the thread.

My C7.5 S6 is currently at the shop for the same issue, it appeared twice last month. Both times it appeared for a couple of days of gentle driving but when I mashed the accelerator to almost red line the CEL clears.

Mine came on under gentle driving but I haven't tried mashing the accelerator and I don't have a obd tool to clear code.

Oops, forgot to update this thread.. After i erased the code it came back on about 1000 miles later. This time I took it to the Audi Dealer and was told it was a faulty oxygen sensor, and replaced it. I have the Audi Pure Protection extended warranty so that was that.

3 weeks after I got the car back, the light came back on! Same code. Called Dealer and they said they were booked for 2 weeks in advance, and told me to erase the code and see how long it took for it to come back. Erased it, and it came back about 600 miles later, on a saturday night. Drove it around for some errands on sunday. At one of my stops, when restarted the car, it was no longer on... That was about 2500 miles ago. No other light or code has come on since.

Had the same issue, reset multiple times, but it always came back, once the car was heated up and with mashed peddle. It was the O2 sensor.

Understand it sound ridiculous, but if they only replaced one are you sure they replaced the correct bank? Bank1

Dropped off today to check out CEL and diagnosis is an O2 sensor. They are going to obtain approval from my extended warranty and replace downline sensor. Hoping to have it back in a couple days. I'll keep this thread updated.

Let me know which O2 sensor they replace! It'll be interesting if it comes on again like mine.

Most places make the mistake of replacing the wrong O2 sensor

P2096 is driver side (left hand drive) post cat
P2196 is driver side (left hand drive) pre cat

The German shop I went to did two o2 sensors on passenger side. Actually grateful because that side is definitely the harder side.

If you get both codes that means you most likely have a pre cat too high of a signal throwing off the post cat o2. Replace the precat first, reset codes, and drive again. If it comes back then replace post cat. If you have only one code then replace that o2 sensor up front.

Yes, bank 1 of the engine is the passenger side (left hand drive), but the sensor is on the drivers side, due to the downpipe crossover (easy access).

    " 14788 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor B1 S2, P013F 00 [232] - Response too Slow Lean to Rich"

I had the bank 1 secondary O2 sensor generate a fault code, because the rise/fall response times were too slow... the fault went away after replacement.

Bank 1 Oxygen Sensor. Rear 4H0906262L .... (old number 4H0906265B), Bosch Part Number: 16528
    Cylinder 1,2,3,4.

"Bosch LSF-4.2 The planar switching-type lambda sensor with integrated central heater generates a signal during the transition from lean to rich or rich to lean operation. Light-off time less than 12 sec."

The dealer took care of it quick. They replaced the Bank 1 Sensor 2 and the CEL is gone. My mechanic said to drive for a while to see if like reappears then they would look at Bank 1 Sensor 1. All good for now.

So cars been great for a month. Now I get CEL again and this time the AutoZone OBD says O2 sensor on bank 2 post cat. Will be another trip to the dealer. Wondering if this is coincidence, aggressive tune or aftermarket exhaust?

Can anyone confirm the Bosch part number for the rear sensor? Local store has this in stock but their web site says it does not fit and I need to order in a different one that costs twice as much.
