Normal for backup camera to continue to display few seconds after putting into drive?

Just 3-4 weeks into my Audi ownership and have noticed on my new to me 2013 S5 that after backing up and then putting the car into drive, the display unit continues to show the backup camera for a few seconds. Is that normal? It's long enough that I can put the car in gear and start moving forward a couple/few seconds before the rear camera switches off on the display. Not a huge deal, I am just surprised at the delay.

I do not know regarding the time setting (I have not sat at a stop after putting it in drive) I can tell you there is a speed switch over. I think it may be around 9 mph. Thinking about it, if you are having to do a multipoint turn R and D back and forth a couple of times, the back up camera should stay on so you can see the distance/obstacles.

My S5 does the same, I have a 6MT. Pretty sure it’s normal. Like Neil said, it shuts off after moving forward at a certain speed.

Okay thanks for the feedback. I’m just used to the camera going away as soon as it comes out of reverse with other makes. Sounds like what I’m experiencing with my S5 is normal.

not only does the rear camera stay on for a few seconds after shifting out of reverse, but the audio level is also partially muted while in reverse prior to shifting to a forward gear … at least in my '13.

I saw a setting where you can control the audio sound level when in reverse and mine is also set to reduce the volume when in reverse. Glad to hear from everyone that the rear view camera staying on for a couple seconds even when going back into drive is normal.

Thanks again to all for the responses.

The speed at which it turns off can be set in VAG Com.

    Normal.

I believe you can switch this in VAG Com as mentioned above, or possible in Carista / hidden menu!

I will echo the same thing, mine stays on until I get to about 9 mph. If you want it to go off faster, you can push "Nav," "Radio," or "Media" to manually get it to switch.

I think it is a really nice feature.
