I made a mistake in the title.

As many know, VAG models tend to have 2 designations. One for the platform, which covers a wider range, and is less specific. Then a “type” designation, which is generally specific to a type within a shared platform.

    Example: Audi 100 type 44 platform C3.

The type designation will appear as the prefix on parts that are unique to the model, and later on the same parts on other models that share the same parts.

    Back to the B7:

    Audi A4 B7 type 8E.
    Seat Exeo B7 type 3R.

In both B7 models, Sedan and Avant / ST have specific type suffix:

    Audi A4 B7: 8E5.
    Audi A4 B7 Avant: 8E9.

    Seat Exeo B7: 3R5.
    Seat Exeo B7 ST: 3R9.

The color is very similar to that of the SEAT. They are not the same. There’s a base B7 2.0 TDI Sedan that parks at my work car park. I’ve never seen the owner though.
yeah I wish. A brown 3.0T 493 hp wagon would have been nice! sleeper enough.

S-line conversion, even if its easier to get salvaged parts today, makes the ''cheap 400 bhp+'' project a bit more expensive.

As I delve more into the SEAT Exeo B7, I find more items which while looking exactly like Audi A4 B7 parts, are unique to the SEAT Exeo, and carry SEAT part numbers.

The latest is the glass. My model is a Sport Tech, meaning privacy rear windows. They are certainly dark, though I originally assumed they had tinted film applied from the factory.

Not so. They are actually tinted glass, with no applied film. Nice for a B6/B7 retrofit, at least it won’t get scratched like film does. The tailgate glass won’t fit a B6/B7 though, unless the tailgate was being replaced too! Sedan models though have the same shape rear screen as the equivalent B6/B7 sedan.

I know this is stupid but I just noticed how the mirrors come out the door and not their normal slot in the corner. Weird.

Your observation isn’t stupid at all bud.

It’s certainly different, but if you look at later VAG models, you’ll notice the shift gradually returning to door mirrors mounted on the door, as opposed to the more traditional triangle mount.

Current A3/S3 are prime examples, TT and current Scirocco are the same too. It makes the cars look more modern, SEAT like most Spanish brands have always been more daring in their designs, and the Exeo’s no exception.
