IE stage 2 ngk iridium gap or no?

So Im stage 1 and going stage 2 with a 187 crank in the coming weeks. I cant find the post that was a general IE stage post, but was told to buy the iridium bkr9eix plugs and gap a specific gap. Im planning on doing the plugs tomorrow, but tonight I was talking to some buddies (gear heads) that said you shouldnt gap iridium plugs b/c it can mess up the iridium. Any imput yall? Also, if I should gap what is the recommended gap for IE stage 2? I can always try to gap with a needle nose to the side electrode and lightly use gapper to check space instead of using the gapper to wedge open.

    Thanks!

IE recommends NGK BKR8EIX plugs gapped to .028 for both stage I and II. I recently emailed them, and that's their recommended plug.
Buy a spark plug gapping tool - when used properly, it will not damage the plug and is far less frustrating than trying to do it with pliers.

They come gapped at .031". Thats 3 thousands of an inch difference. Id love to know what IE claim the difference is between as is form, for a daily driver. Maybe Ill reach out to Damon

Call me crazy, but that still a 10-12% difference. I've also never received 4 spark plugs let alone 6 that are gaped all the same. Even when they are "pre-gaped". I started to gap and check when I bought my Focus ST, and when I changed them on my S4 I also gaped them. It was definitely noticeable.

We recommend those gaps because those are the ones that performed best for us when we developed the software. Besides, the very nature of gapping spark plugs can be very precise, and an inch is a great distance when your tolerances are incredibly high.

If my math serves me correctly, that would be 3 hundredths of an inch. Which on a tuned car, say DP, makes a huge difference. Stage 1 or a stage 2 car might not be a huge difference but would always check the gaps and make sure all 6 are the same.

The difference between .031" and .028" is .003" (3 thousandths of an inch). Regardless, Im going to check the gap and make sure they're correct anyway. Im just not quite sure Id even trust myself to get the gap all exactly at .028" without a .003" error anyway, haha. Thanks for the input all!

Ahh gotcha. There was no mention of .028" gaps in your post. I've been using the simple spark plug gap tool for years and have had good luck with it. Who knows if it's always 100% correct but I imagine minor +/- is acceptable, unless you have major OCD lol.
