    Exhaust cutout/bypass/valves

    Hello,

I want to buy a vacuum or electric valves for my S5.

I just want to know, where to weld it and which valves are better/more durable (electric vs vacuum)?

Do you really want to do this, or would installing RS5 mufflers be a more elegant and acceptable solution? I see them relatively inexpensive on eBay occasionally.

I don't think RS5 mufflers will give the sound OP is looking for.

OP never said anything about sound.

There are fully configured exhaust systems for the S5 with that capability. RCP Exhausts is one example and is made in Poland (Gdansk). I love the sound of their system.

It is my daily car and I like the stock exhaust's sound (my wife and small baby as well) but from time to time I want to hear the V8 ;)

One of my employees is regularly in Poland (he's there now) and has an overnight layover in Gdansk each trip. I keep jokingly telling him he needs to pack up an exhaust system from RCP for me and take it home in his bags. :-)

If you're doing exhaust dumps and want to hear it without it being too loud, you'll want to add the dumps just before the rear mufflers. If you have an Instagram, message me on there (@Sazexa) and I can send you a video of what a muffler delete sounds like. You'll get an idea of what dumps would sound like. Dumps/cut outs are cool but when you add them like this, usually the only place to direct the sound is right down to the ground and sometimes that sound echos back and makes a little extra noise/drone while the cut outs are open.

On the other hand, the muffler delete in general is not that loud and I would by no means call it too loud for a daily. I've tried several exhaust set ups, right now I'm running no middle or rear mufflers, but factory cats and resonators. I can send you a video of either if you're interested.

Also, aftermarket solutions with cutouts built in are typical VERY expensive by comparison to a regular aftermarket exhaust... Which in general is usually over priced if you ask me.

The only logical solution here is to sell the wife and baby, use the funds to buy a proper high-end valved exhaust.

I have a 2008 Audi TT 3.2 and I installed the valve pictured in OP with the black motor boot. I know its a different motor but loudness should be similar

I did pre-res delete, mid res swapped for magnaflow, rear muffler is OEM box

I installed dump valve right before the rear muffler. Its electronically actuated with a remote. When closed its fairly quiet to go under the radar. When open its very loud but sounds great! You really hear that VR6 growl and it turns a lot of heads driving by. I could see it getting annoying on long drives or with company/wife in the car but that's the beauty of being able to close it when travelling with others who do not appreciate the volume level. Personally I drive with valve open nearly 80% of the time even in my 45 min commute

Only negative I see is the motor might eventually fail. They are cheap enough I bought a spare. Also the flap has a tendency to vibrate when closed at idle which is annoying but it goes away when opened.

I've bought the vaccum valves which I hope are more durable but a little bit bigger than the electronically actuated.

It is not good as I do not find any suitable place to place it :/

I just bought ECS tuning's bypass setup. I plan on putting the cutouts where the center resonator used to be. Plenty of room there.

I just did this to mine a few weeks back. Love the sound (although mine are on an C7 3.0T so yours will be a little better) and was deffinetly worth the money. Like you said I had the center "suitcase" muffler deleted and put the cutouts in its place. I had a local shop weld mine in and they did custom bent pipe from the cats back. For the vacuum source I tapped onto the brake booster line as it's a constant supply of vacuum but you may not receive the initial rev of the engine turning on as the vacuum hasn't built just yet. All said and done all the parts and exhaust work cost around $1000. If anyone has any questions feel free to PM me and I'll do all I can to help!

Looks great Kerber! I'm surprised they actually take up most of that space for the resonator. I want to keep mine at an angle, to avoid two 90 degree turns like you have. Looking at yout photos, I am not sure its possible. Minus just using a boost tap, I'll have the same setup beginning of next month.

The exhaust shop I went to couldn't find a much better way to fit them in unless you move them in front of the cats and move the cats down the line some where. One thing I would suggest with the boost tap is that it won't give you a constant vacuum as when the engine is at a higher RPM the intake vacuum goes down thus closing the valves ever so slightly. It should still work but it's just as easy to tap onto the vacuum pump. If you want a photo on how I did mine LMK. Also here's a video of how it sounds
