Rotors & Brake Pad replacement cost?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
My 2014 S4 has about 49,000 miles on it. I don't drive it too hard, but I clearly needed four new rotors and brake pads. I chose to go with ceramic pads based on all the positive feedback here on these forums. I just paid about $1,240 for everything. Is that a reasonable price or did I just get taken to the cleaners? This is an independent shop and they've always done good quality work for me over the years. And no, I don't have the ability or desire to do any of this myself. This was just a little more than I was expecting to pay. Thanks in advance for your feedback.

That seems a bit high. Did they give you a part cost and labor breakdown?
Did you get OEM rotors or aftermarket?

Depending on the brand of rotors and pads along with labor that sounds right.

I paid $656 for stoptech rotors and pads (all 4 sets). For a professional install they usually charge an hour for the front and an hour for the rear so overall you are looking at 300 to 400 on install depending on the shop. That places you at 1,000 to 1,100 or so before tax

I recall Audi wanting $600something to replace brakes on my B7 back in 2010. Doesn't seem outrageous if the aftermarket quality is good!

I think I was quoted $1000 by my Audi dealer for front brakes. That's how I justified buying the VAG-COM tool from Ross Tech and Apikol front rotors (if I'd pay this much to Audi, I'll spend that much, do it myself, and get what I want). I think you got hosed.

It depends upon what pads and rotors were used, and the labor rate. And did they also flush the fluid?

Post the invoice; otherwise impossible to tell.

$500-600 in parts. 1/2 hr per corner. 1/2 hr to bleed. Test drive and hopefully bed in. Yeah, could easily be right in the range.

Jobs like these are why it's great to DIY and it's half the costs.

I often buy the parts myself (link to OEM rotors and pads).

Then have shop install. Should save you quite a bit!

Cost me about $1K - with full StopTech Cryo Rotors / Portfield R4s Pads / Stainless Lines Upgraded Fluid / & Install......

    So yeah Dealer = RIDICULOUS......

Note: Stop Tech Cryo Rotors & Portfield Pads are some of the most expensive parts as to price - they are worth it - but goes to show that even with expensive part options it's WAAAAAAY less in cost to get far better parts and install outside of dealer.....

Agreed. Ordered a kit from ecs for little under 600 with military discount, bought a new vagcom cable for 200 and did the install myself along with some vag com mods. I can also run logs. Couldn’t be happier. Tons of info/videos on the process. After you take off the wheels it’s only two bolts and a screw to replace pads in the rear. Not a complex process.
