    Sirius Linking problem

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Yesterday the radio started having an intermittent signal, which causes the dash display to show "Linking" instead of the station name. When this happens the sound cuts out, then after maybe 10 seconds it will connect and music will play, then it cuts out again.

I did the 3 button reset to no avail.

I read it might either be a lose antenna connection to the XM unit, or maybe a bad antenna, which might need to be replaced by the dealer.

So before I go to the dealer, where is the xm unit in a 2016 B8.5 S5?

    Thanks!

This sounds like a dealer issue, I have the same problem as have many others.
Replacing the SiriusXM module is pricy but seems to be the culprit in most of these cases.
Occasionally replacing the antenna also does the job.
Short of buying an aftermarket module I’ll be looking at another head unit.

I had the same issue. The dealer said they were 95% sure the antenna was the issue however to find out for sure they’d had to remove the headliner to get to the antenna. That would cost $1000 plus $600 for a new antenna! I said no thanks and cancelled my XM.

You could also get the app on your phone and use the app through Bluetooth.

$600 for an antenna? Holy shit.

So many people have had this same LINKING issue.
I’m looking at an Alpine unit which is supposedly compatible although it has to be shipped from Italy.

Yes! When the service manager gave me that quote it was an instant “no thanks!”

    I bet!

Well, I managed to find the XM unit in the trunk, unplugged the green antenna wire, wiggled it, blew on it, you know, the highly scientific, technical fix, then plugged it back in. I sat in the driveway with the stereo on for a few minutes and it stopped doing the linking thing. I guess we'll see how it goes for the next few days. Hopefully I don't have to save up for a new antenna :)

Good luck! I cancelled my XM and found a good radio station. Figured I could put the money towards something else.

I’ve heard of that approach working for others also. I’m going to attempt the same thing.
Glad that it worked for you though.

I'm late, but my initial reply was going to be "how sirius is it?"

Don't expect this from a luxury auto, so yeah, it's sirius
