Off-season tire cover (storage bag), and best storage tips.

    Hello all Audizinie’s,

I’m gone get my new set of wheels from Mops (V-FF 109) and was looking for a solutions for wheel and tire covers / storage bags.

What do you all use and recommend, any other tips on off-season tire storage you want to share with the rest?

Audi resells the Kurgo tire cover, but it looks like it only works with up to 20" tires and would not completely cover tire tire.

I was given tire/wheel covers when I bought a winter set off a guy, but haven't used them. I just stack the wheels/tires in my garage, usually with a layer of cardboard between to prevent marks.

You could also go for a wall-mount unit--they typically will hold a set of 4 off the ground, giving you useful space underneath

Same as Audibot, I use a MaxxHaul Tire Dolly and a Heininger GarageMate TireHide which is a super nice zipper cover that fits over the entire stack of wheels/tires. Allows me to easily move the wheels in my garage without any hassle and protects them from the dust/debris.
The tire dolly also has a sweet compartment in the center to put your lug nuts in if you have different sets for each set of wheels.

Thanks for good information, I would love to get a proper wall-mount unit unfortunately with us renting it’s not an option. Some times I will have to move the wheels around to make rum for other items this is also why I won’t to protect the sides and not just prevent to rubber from drying

I use these. I have two of them in my garage. I bought a different brand from Amazon - I believe $99/each. One for my cars off season wheels/tires and one for hers.
    https://martinsindustries.com/en/pro...MaAj12EALw_wcB

When I store my summer wheels/tires - I clean them extensively before putting them "up" for the year. For my winters - I leave them dirty and leave them in the white DirectTire tire bags because zero fucks.
I love this set up. Doesn't take up ANY usable space in my house or garage. They look pretty handsome when my summers are up there.

I don't necessarily agree. You can put 2-4 holes in the wall of a rental and fill them when you're complete. No different than hanging art on the wall. It's "just" 4 holes. Fill them with putty and paint over the hole before you move out.

A dolly is a smart idea! I've had a couple times I've had to move the tires. Will probably buy a dolly from Harbor Freight and stack them on a piece of plywood on it.

I second this. My former roommate and I punched a HUGE hole in the wall moving a couch out from the basement. Patched it up and after about 5 sand and spackle cycles, the owner of the house never noticed and we got our full security deposit back. Easy peasy, especially if you anticipate renting for a while

you are correct, i guess its more i dont want to mess with it in a rental that we could be out from this year vs not allowed.

do you still place them in bags when you store them on the wall mount or do you just place them in it?

That's exactly what I use for the tires off of both my S4 and my wife's SQ5 (her's are the 21"). I got the wall mounted storage racks from Tire Rack. Great quality and plenty sturdy. Only difference is I individually cover the tires too using tire totes from Tire Rack and Audi. I used to stack them on the floor but decided to get the wall racks last summer to give me more floor space in the garage. Works awesome and glad I made that change.

I will say that I used to use a HF dolly, but TBH they are junk when you are trying to move a stack of rims/tires. The wheels/casters rust out/bind and just become more of a PITA than anything. That is why I upgraded to the MaxxHaul, so much better quality rolls with ease.

I got something similar from Amazon too. Easy install, but the studs in my garage were a little too close. I can fit my OEM 21s fine, but not the HREs.

I have the TR one. I’ve put 280 pounds up there and the bar doesn’t even flex. I added extra fasteners too. If it comes down the wall will with it

    MOPS on the Move!

This looks so clean, will have to invest in a wall unit like this when i get a place.

Going back to the cover / bag those anyone uses one as i thought that tire manufacturing recommends for tires to be sealed not to dry them out?

    Thanks

You could also just leave the $99 rack as an "improvement."

I guess if you really want to go the extra mile, place em in garbage bags. IMO as long as they arn't exposed to huge fluctuations in temperature they won't crack/rot from year to year especially if your using them. Before storing them, just make sure they are clean and apply a good coating of water based tire dressing.

I thought it said it covered up to 28”. It worked fine on my 20s that had 295 tires and total diameter of around 28”!
