    A8 D4 22" Wheels 285/30 or 265/30

    Hi.
I have the opportunity of acquiring correct offset 22"x 9.5 wheels for my A8 but cannot decide on whether to order 265/30r22 or 285/30r22 tyres.
I currently have standard size 21"x9.0 wheels on the car with the standard size 275/35r21 tyres.
    275/35r21 tyres are 725.9mm tall
    265/30r22 tyres are 717.8mm tall
    285/30r22 tyres are 729.8mm tall.

Therefore the closest height tyres is the 285/30r22 but I am confused as most people seem to go for 265/30.
From forums I have read that the 285/30 does not rub at all as it is only 3.9mm taller ( which makes it only 1.95 mm higher into the arch top).

Is it just that there are fewer 285/30 tyres to choose from that 265/30? Is it that people like the even lower sidewall of the 265?

I think I would really like to go for 285/30 so as not to decrease my existing total tyre height (as I do not wish to lower) and for a little more sidewall than going with 265/30.

Please comment as I am keen for thoughts on this.

I have 22's on mine and I'm running 265/30. I can tell you that I think 285 will be really close to rubbing on the upper control arm. I currently have about a half inch from the top of my tire to the upper control arm. I'm pretty happy with my setup.

The million dollar question is, how's the ride compared to a 35 series tire? I ran 30 series on my A7, so I would imagine it to be similar, which wasn't bad at all.

Honestly I can only tell the difference if I catch a pothole (which I try to stay away from). Other than that, it's like glass.

What width wheels are you running? I'm considering running 265/30 on my 22x10.5 wheels, but I don't really like the stretched look.
285/30 is recommended, but my options are limited at that size...

I'm running 22x10 all the way around. I personally like the stretched look though. Here are some pics of them.1547319930703.jpeg20190112_130243.jpeg

Is that stock height or lowered a bit? I do think 22s look great on the A8/S8, just sucks for tire selection.

Lowered via VCDS Vag-Com. Dropped as far as I could.

Think I prefer the 285/30 22 option as per these pics.

I'm late to the party, but it sounds like I'm probably running the most aggressive setup.

I have 295/25/22s, and it's lowered. No rubbing.

The ride quality isn't the best, but it definitely has the best look.

What size wheel and offset? Any spacers required? Thinking of running 295/30/21 to get less stretch on a 10.5 wheel.

No spacers. I honestly forget what offset I have on this setup. I don’t like the stretched look, and I have to say there is none of that. It took me a little bit to get used to the lip slightly protruding past the tire. But that’s more to do with the design of the wheel than getting tires too narrow for the wheel.

I’m pretty incompetent when it comes to posting pics on this site, as I’ve only done it with my S4, years ago. But if I can figure it out again, I’ll be happy to post some pics for you guys.

Sorry, as for the size of the wheel, it’s a 22x10.5.

I have 285/30 on my S8, and no rubbing and the ride is very comparable to the stock 21's.

285 all day. Nice feel. And matches load rating needed for our heavy cars. IMG_0111.JPG
