    Roof rack and cargo box

Wondering if anyone runs roof rack with cargo box on RS3. I would appreciate any feedbacks or pics of your current set up.

Thinking about going with Thule wingbar and foot pack. Wondering if it fits well on our car. Also, which size box can be fitted on top.

I have the fat cat ski carriers on the jet stream bars but thinking about a change to a box. Pics of your set up would be appreciated.

Seen this online and the inno box looks pretty good from this angle.

I have the Audi branded roof rack, feet and carrier. I believe it’s all made for Audi by Thule.

I can fully open and close my sunroof and there is still about 2-3cm of space in between the box and the glass when fully open. I apologize for not posting images sooner

I just put a Thule rack and cargo box on today and it looks pretty badass if you ask me. Here's all the pieces: 47" Wingbar Evo load bars, 480R Rapid Traverse Foot Pack, 44" windscreen fairing, Kit 1748 Traverse Kit Fit, Motion XT L cargo box and 544 pack of lock cylinders.

^^ How much was everything with all the bells and whistles ? Look very nice and aggressive by the way.
8V RS3 [email protected] mph (ran a few 11.7s stock and ran 118+mph several times)
8Y RS3 k&N filter ran [email protected] (ran 11.6 5 times and trapped 120+ several times)
    at 3100ft elevation

    @p5stunna
this is amazing, I actually might need to get something like this.

How fast can you drive with it loaded vs unloaded?
How slow do you need to take the corners with that thing on top?
In other words how careful do you need to drive when its on?
How often do you remove it? I assume it is only used when it is needed?

    Thanks!!

I load up mine with bunch of camping gears and no issue driving highway at 85+ mph. Just expect noise even with fairing and wingback.

Don’t worry about driving more careful. As long as you mounted both bars and box carefully, you are good. Even did launch with this thing on and got right at 11 on dragy for quarter mile.

I only remove it once every few months when I don’t camp.

I'll probably not drive any differently with the box on top. As another person here mentioned, as long as your setup is installed properly and your not overweighing the box down it should be fine with normal driving.

Are the Thule bars/rack better quality than the genuine Audi racks? What are the differences?

The Audi racks seem to be cheaper than the Thule set!

Sorry, I have no idea. The Audi racks may even be made by Thule.

The Audi Rack and boxes are made by Thule. I am running a yakima bar setup and an inno box, there are a bunch of options for roof racks, mine costed less than a grand for the box and bars.

I inquired at the Audi dealer on roof bars for my RS3 and my S5 and they were $426 and $459 plus tax. I will go a different route.

get the yakima jetstream setup, it actually fits better than the OEM audi option and can be found online with discounts available. I got my setup for 25% off if I can remember. Summer time always has good deals for this kind of stuff.

Confirmed 8Y fitment for Thule or other roof rack base bars?

Hoping to resurrect this thread and see if there are confirmed roof rack base bar fitments for the 8Y.

From the photos here (https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...1#post13724920), it looks like the 8V sunroof had a strip of black roof about 2 in / 5 cm between edge of sunroof glass and the metal / painted part of the roof. The sunroof glass on the 8Y comes all the way to the edge of the metal / painted roof, at least by the front doors, and I expect any rack foot will sit partially on the sunroof glass.

Audi accessory site says their base carrier bars (part no. 8Y5071126) fit the 8Y (2022-2024) A3/S3/RS3 but different part number (8V5071126) for the 8V (2017-2021).
Thule does not list a confirmed fitment base bar set for the 8Y S3/RS3 but they do for the 8Y A3. It looks to me like the A3 has the same sunroof that goes to the edge of the painted roof
    Screenshot 2024-05-20 204404.jpg
just like the S3/RS3 so I expect the Thule for the A3 should fit the S3/RS3. Can anyone confirm?
