    Must I Use Adblue?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Have to do this first fill on my 2015 Q7. Must I use Audi's adblue product or can I use the Blue Def product? My belief is that it's just a water/urea solution so there shouldn't be an issue but perhaps there's another additive or something.

I searched but I couldn't find a thread or website that addressed this question. I fail at searching. Sorry.

    Thank you!

And then to follow up, I seem to recall a while back that using these would not fill the tank completely. Is that true?

Check your owners manual to see fill amount. Keep in mind that it is probably not completely empty when you fill it.

Try not to spill the urea solution as it's caustic

So following up on this, seems like whenever I post for help I always find it right after the post.

It looks like it would be quite difficult to fill up using anything other than the AdBlue bottle with the special spout or getting a special fill hose so I could use a larger supply jug. Someone suggested elsewhere that once you use one of those special bottles to cut the bottom off of it and use it again in the future, which I will. Results were mixed on whether or not Blue Def (which has the same ISO certification) is a good or bad thing. What I can't find is a supply with a two-day delivery, and no one around here (Advance, Auto Zone, etc.) seems to carry this stuff in stock. So I'll have to buy it direct from Audi. No biggie if it's just the one time thing.

Thanks for the replies folks. BTW I've spilled urea on the side of my Ford several times. When it dries it leaves a salt residue, which is expected. Didn't seem to harm the paint tho. Not saying you're wrong! I'll be careful. Thanks.

you can use any DEF out there. most have the nozzle that fits. Napa has it with a bottle and nozzle that fits. pretty cheap iirc as well.

fill it until it burps, let it settle and run into the other of the two tanks. fill until full and spray off any excess with water

You could actually delete the system as a whole! It will make your Tdi more reliable. Reliability issues lie within the clean diesel tech.

The dealership will fill it for free. It was part of the settlement on repaired TDI’s.

I discussed with my Service Advisor. In the US, they will fill once between service intervals for free, not an unlimited number of times.

if you have your owners manual, look on page 263

i highlighted the requirements of the adblue/def.
as long as it meets the ISO 22241-1, your good.
cheaper to go to walmart to buy the 2.5 gallon then go to the stealership

Everyone should inform AoA of each dealership that fails to meet the stipulations of the settlement.

This is my dealerships policy also. But I also have a Diesel pickup so I always have 2.5 gallons of Peak Blue Def on hand. I buy it on sale at my local parts store they usually have a sale of 2 (2.5 gallon) jugs for $17.99. Thats all I have run in mine other than the few times its been to the dealer and they top it off with AdBlue with no issues.
I also run Opti-lube XPD In every other tank of fuel.

Has anyone had a hard time with Audi honoring free AdBlue fill ups from your local dealer? I've always had them fill it no question asked and now all of a sudden my local dealer refuses to fill my Adblue and said to go to my next closest dealer hich is 4 hours away. They also said because I didn't get my vehicle serviced at their dealer that they will not honor this free service. I called Audi of America and they told me they have to do more research on the matter and have not given me a response. When I told Audi of America I do not get my vehicle serviced at this dealer or any dealer anymore unless warranty work they seemed alarmed. My Audi Care expired and I now purchase my own oil and filters but I perform the maintenance myself. In this supplied paperwork it does not state anywhere that I have to go to an Audi Dealer. I know AdBlue isn't very expensive but its the principle at this point. Let me know your experiences if you have any.Screenshot_20211211-223446_Adobe%20Acrobat.jpg20211211_223611.jpg

My nearby dealer, Audi North Scottsdale (operated by Penske), has topped it off on the occasional times I’ve brought it in for service. The first time, incidentally, it was in for service because the pump that transfers the DEF between tanks had failed, so I was getting the 1500 mile warning much too frequently. Normally I do my own service work, as much as I can anyway, and fortunately they are cool about it. The only time I’ve had a service guy aghast is when he saw that my wheels and tires were not the Pirelli trash that fits the S-Line 22s (I had some aftermarket wheels and all-seasons fitted for some rough terrain work). I’ve never purchased AdBlue; I’ve only used Blue DEF and once the transfer pump was fixed, the refills have been on about a 9500-mile interval.

My dealer damaged my vehicle doing warranty work a couple years ago so we aren't on the best of terms. I'm hoping Audi of America forces them to comply to the warranty.

My dealer did too: put a scratch in the rear bumper that looks like the driver backed it into one of their stucco walls. I didn’t notice it until I got home. Very irritating, and I can’t prove they did it. I hate going to the dealer for anything other than specialist items. This latest visit was for an airbag igniter. I don’t fool around with the airbag system so insurance doesn’t have a reason to deny a claim.

I hope AoA stays on them, too. Be sure to make a report, and use names

It wasn't Audi of Spokane by chance was it lol? So frustrating. Why can't the quality of service match the quality of the brand. I rrally enjoy my Audi... but I can't take it anywhere without being let down.
