    What's high mileage for the Q5 3.0t's?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Looking at various low mileage '15-17 Q5 3.0t cars and I am wondering what is considered high mileage on these cars?

Any special things I should look for if it's been services or fixed by a specific mileage?

    TY

My mother has one probably got around 50k km. Other than basic maintenance her adaptive headlight bugged out and I know when I’ve driven it the moonroof rattles and it drives me bananas....

She loves it though never been in for service longer than a day. Knock on wood...

My S4 had 112K miles on it and was heavily modded from 50K on with lots of track time and showed no signs of getting weak.

I go by the rule of thumb that these cars (Audi's in general- S4, S5, A6, etc with the 3.0t) have a lifetime of around 10 years or 135,000 miles- typically whichever comes last.

I have 50K on my SQ. Went stage 2 at 10K miles or so. No issues so far.

There are 100K+ modded S4s still running strong.

Where did you get this data point? Audi totally changed their manufacturing and components approach between 2008 and 2012. Vehicles produced from model years 2014-2017 seem to be incredibly reliable. For several years Audi was one of the top brands in overall reliability in Consumer Reports (prior to the recent shift of moving some mfg to Mexico instead - which many of us believe signals a downgrade in quality on 2018+ Qs). Furthermore a large recent study across many millions of vehicles over the last 20 years found that the 2016 Q5 was the #1 most reliable vehicle produced in the entire automotive industry (measured by CEL rates).

In the meantime you have Loe and others who have been running our 3.0T drivetrain heavily modified for the highest performance possible with thousand+ drag strip runs and almost no issues at all.

My friends with their stock Lexus, Toyota and Honds models driven like a grandmother have had more issues than the recent Audi owners I know.

For sure things have changed and gotten better. The SQ`s are much newer, and I'm coming from a 2009 first gen 3.0t. In my family we've owner a Q7 3.6, Q5 3.2, A4 2.0t, and my C6 A6 3.0t. I've observed a lot of common failure points (especially on the two Q models and the a4) at around that mileage and age. It's gotten better for sure, but regardless- newer cars may be better and I'm not as familiar with the Q5 platform.

But the C6 platform that lifespan is more common with the bigger failure items, and some a4/s4 items as well. Are the cooling/pump/thermostat/chain issues still a problem on the newer Q series 3.0t platforms?

My thoughts are for older platforms for sure. I'm not too deep into newer Q platforms

Mine has 70k with 0 issues, buddy has 320k on his a4 wagon with 0 issues. If you take care of them they will take care of you. TDI will be the best of the group for longevity.

Well the OP is asking about 2015-2017 Q5 3.0T. The data shows that for example the 2011 Q5 is one of the least reliable vehicles ever made while the 2016 Q5 is the most reliable vehicle ever made. With a significant dropoff in quality already showing up in 2018 data as one would expect.

They are for all practical purposes totally different vehicles in terms of reliability.

    Thanks again. Looks like I'll be looking at a '16-'17 Q5 or SQ5 .

Here is another study I was referring to. Polk data from 5.7 million vehicles over the last 20 years. 2016 Q5 as the #1 most reliable vehicle in the whole automotive industry (based on CEL rate):
