    RSNav vs. MMI 3G plus

I'm weighing the differences in an upgrade between RSNav and 3G plus and would love to hear other's thoughts.

On the one hand, RSNav will give me Waze (which mostly negates the need for a radar detector :) and touch control on the screen. But I've read conflicting stories on the reliability of the system, audio quality, etc.

On the other, 3G+ gets me google maps and turn information in the instrument cluster. It's also generally a more 'stock' upgrade that some might consider more valuable should I decide to sell the car down the road.

I'm sure there aren't many with experience with both, but if anyone can vouch for one or the other, it'll help me make a better informed decision.

Honestly the pseudo 'heads-up-display' of the 3G+ is what really has me torn. I've just made the switch from a 2001 Avant with a Sony carplay head unit, and my biggest gripe with that system was the need to look down at the head unit for turn by turn directions. It's nice that the B8 has the primary info screen at a higher height, but the info at the center of the instrument cluster really is enticing.

I love having the information in my cluster. Makes road trips too easy.

There was just a question on this a few weeks ago...

    https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...SNAV-vs-MMI-3G

3G connectivity to the MMI is going to be null and void come next year. T-Mobile/AT&T are ceasing 3G band, so your MMI won't work to get Google Maps anymore, neither will Audi Connect.

Thanks. Wish the search function worked a bit better.

I did install and still have both...
Retrofitting my 3G+ was definitely pointless but back then the RSNav was still at pre-order stage.

Get the RSNav 3rd gen 100%, you will not regret it...

Waze gives you constant map updates whereas Audi charge a fortune.

Waze tells you speed limits. I don't think 3G+ does.

Waze integration is awesome but it does not negate the need for a radar detector. My radar detector saves me from a cop that's not marked on waze at least a couple times a week.

So given that the consensus seems to be to go ahead with the RSNav - are my concerns over the quality of the product valid? The two most complete threads I've found on the topic are kind of all over the place, but the overall impression I got was that there are considerable bugs in the software, issues of quality control on the physical product, an odd dynamic between the owner of RSNav and his manufacturing partner resulting in an inability to directly feedback on issues.

Is this all unfounded? I just dont want to tear apart my vehicle only to have to return it back to its original state a few months down the road.

Remember that what Daniel started was unchartered territory, with the added complexity of the multitude of versions of Audi's proprietary systems (Concert, Symphony, MMI2/3G Low/High/Plus, etc) in our various Audi models...

But, he's come a long way since the first iteration and software version.

Installed a 3rd Gen unit y'day and I can confirm that it's a significant improvement!
It starts almost instantly & sound is flawless...
Gotta check the 4G connection (so far a bit problematic for us European users) and monitor overall stability for a bit but so far so f.....ing good!

Anyway, gotta say that none of the reported issues made me regret my earlier 1st Gen unit.
And also, the vast feedback and the number of reported issues only reflect the fact that Daniel is listening and proactive (as well as transparent) which is far from being the case for similar products...

Does Daniel sell the RSnav car play adapter any more? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tfJP7yb6PtU

I was looking at the 7" screen for a more OEM appearance, but again wondering which version for a 3G+ MMI system would be the best?

I wouldn´t go so far to talk about "considerable bugs". I got my 7in RSNAV in DEC17 and, so far, I´ve installed 4 upgrades which makes the use of the unit almost flawless.
Feel free to check some of my clips in Youtube.

EDIT: new updates in IOS version allows Waze and Google maps in Carplay.
