They are all pretty accurate. Get an inexpensive digital gauge and you'll be fine.

EDIT: I've had good luck with Tekton stuff, so here's one:

For years, I was content with the "pencil/pen" tire pressure gauge that is available, but I recently went ahead and purchased the one hilmar2k provided today.

I have a compressor in my garage, so I actually just use this to both fill and check.

If you're into analog, I've had this one for a few years: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072KRX43Y/

It'll hold the needle in place after pulling it off the valve stem so you don't lose the reading right away. Only thing you need to take care of is to make sure you hit the vent release (reset to 0psi) when you're putting the gauge back into storage so you don't wear out the spring and cause the calibration to go awry. Otherwise, super dependable.

hey along the same lines as this topic - I really miss not knowing the exact pressure, just something I've had in all my jeeps, and now it seems like no one is doing it anymore. Has anyone had any luck or positive things to say about bluetooth gauge caps?

My worry with those is that the valve is always open, so you are relying on the seal between the cap and the stem. Also, if they are heavy enough, they might necessitate a wheel balance.

I have a similar style one that stays in the car. I had an electronic one but every time I needed it the batteries were dead. So now that one stays at home in my toolbox, where I can get new batteries if needed. Analog is best when you're on the road.

since july 2017, i've been running a set of valve open bluetooth tpms readers on my other vehicle and have put on 26k miles, which isn't a long duration nor distance. they don't seem to sell them anymore https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015QTPJ0K but it's saved my ass at least 3 times on 2 different tires. 2 nails and 1 "thorn from a tree". they look stupid as hell and seems like they might bend rubber valve stems at highway speeds. tire stores do not want to balance with them on. i haven't had any noticeable issues.

i've had the same concerns as you and they can be a pain in the ass to remove and reinstall without leaking too much air out of the tires. but since i've own the bluetooth tpms, it's survived weekly (sometimes semi-weekly) conveyor belt car washes (full body contact y0!) for 1 year and a cat 1 hurricane irma. i've driven with them out of state a few times (9+ hours each way) and across the state many times (5+hours each way) still on my original set of batteries and would not hesitate to buy another set when the time comes. the cold and hot readings can be anywhere from 1-2 psi difference compared to my long neck analog accu-gage. for a commuter car, i think they can be a reliable and helpful system. on a weekend or hoon car, it's probably more hassle than it's worth. i mean, if you are really utilizing your sport diff with crown gear at 11/10ths, this is not for you on the s4, i just stayed with the stock tpms system.

I have the Audi one, a racing one and a few digital ones. They all read the same. So accuracy is good regardless of which you pick:

If you have a compressor I recommend the JACO FlowPro Digital Tire Inflator Gauge - 200 PSI. you can get it on amazon, love this filler and gauge wish I had it years ago. As for just a gauge I have cheap digital I keep in the Mrs truck and it works great. I have compared it to my Longacre precision race gauge and its within 1/4lb. Seems these low cost digital units are pretty accurate.

My other car is a jeep that I wheel a lot... and have to air down before hitting the trails... Will this allow me to quickly release air and read pressure? So basically, can I put it on the tire not hooked up to a compressor, hit the fill lever and release air, then release the lever and see the PSI?

Because, if so, I need this in my life.

    Thanks!

Yes, though you use a air release button, not the lever.

I've had the electronic ones but the batteries are always an issue. Now I am using a compressor fed analog inflator/deflator/gauge similar to the electronic one previously listed but no need for batteries.

Get the Teraflex tire deflators. Cheap, They all screw together, and have a key chain loop. Fairly quick at letting air out too.

I prefer the old fashioned analog gauge type instrument that holds the tire pressure reading until you release it.

I have several. They all seem to read within 2 psi of each other. Who knows what absolute is? My favorite is an old VDO, made in Germany. I don't think they are still in production, though. Motometer, also a German company, makes an identical model. It is OEM for Porsche, but you can get one without the Porsche logo from Motometer vendors for about $35 or so.
