    Considering the first gen S7

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey all

I may be looking into getting a pre owned s7 soon as i am starting to get bored of my mk2 TTs. Owned a few audis in the past ( V8 S5, A5 2.0t stage 2, V8 R8, and currently a modified mk3 TTS )

Itching to get back into a V8 but no offense the Rs5 is a bit too slow coming from my TTs, so i thought about going for a v8TT

Theres 2 that im currently looking at:

Both are pretty basic in options with just navi and cold weather package and im good with that. Dont need any of the other bells as whistles

Car A) estoril blue with silver interior, 2014 with 25k miles for 43k

Car B) ibis white with black interior, 2014 with 25k miles for 40k

This is where i need you all to chime in. I am aware of the turbo issues on the pre FL with the factory screen/filtering. I contacted dealership for car A, telling them in order for me to consider their car, they would need to bring it in service and have audi swap out the screens for the revised 2016+ screen to prevent the turbo issues. Do u think this is an unrealistic ask? The guy im working with said hes going to get back to me. I also suggested if they cant do the replacement, they would need to drop the price as i dont want issues on a non warranty car. Not to mention the other dealer has a similar car for 40k. I just contacted dealer B and they are going to email me pics since its a newly arrived car and there are no pics up

Let me know your thoughts on the price or if im overreacting about the turbo issues. Also if theres any other issues i should be aware of

    Thanks in advance all!

I think its a really good idea to get the turbo oil screen replaced as soon as possible, so your thinking is in the right direction..

If it were me, I would get the dealer to replace it if at all possible.. If they won't do it on their dime and you have found the car you really want, I'd fork out the cash to get it done myself or just do it myself.. Either way, replacing the screen prematurely can save a lot of headaches down the road..

In term of other things, its a good idea to replace the oil separator (PCV) while the oil screen replacement is being done, as it is a part that has been revised by Audi and the old versions are known to fail. No additional labor when doing it at the time of replacing the oil screen..
    Current Line-Up:
    2008 911 Turbo Cabriolet Manual
    2012 VW Golf R - APR in-house build Stage 4
2002 Audi TT 225 Quattro Roadster - Big Turbo
    1995 Camaro Z28 6 Speed - Just Bolt-Ons

    Gone: 2015 Audi S6 - Stage 3 / 2015 Audi S4 - Stage 2 / 2012 Subaru Sti Hatch

How much is it generally to replace the screen? If the parts and labor isnt bad at all, then i can consider doing it out of pocket. But i heard its really expensive which is why id ask if the dealer can do it on their dime

There's also a software recall for the turbo issue that can be uploaded at the dealer quickly. When you check out the car, pop the engine cover off and take a look at the coolant and oil lines leading into the turbos. Black buildup at the point of connection might indicate turbo failure down the line.

I also had issues with the engine mounts and transmission, although these are not as common as the turbo problems.

Thanks for the info. I did see an open recall for both cars so as long as its free to fix @ dealer im not worried

The black build up u speak of, is that an indication to stay away or do the preemptive measures?

I heard about the engine mount issues as well

I got a quote of 1k for labor to swap out for the revised screen at an independent shop so its not bad

It's not a 100% effective indicator. I had build up on mine and never had an issue. So it's your call. Obviously if there's an ungodly amount it should raise concerns.

I'm assuming the second recall is for PODS.

I say buy the car and SEND IT.
SRM RS7 turbo kits are relatively affordable now (2k - 3k?). Let them go, build it back better than before if necessary. Do oil changes at mid interval so to hopefully prevent the oil screen from clogging.

    so cal

as soon as I can just become a full on SRM poster child, I'm going to go that way with my c7.5 s6.

    just do it
Slovenian tin exhaust, some worthless intake that isn't the SRM yet, cete valve controller because the akra one doesn't work properly on c7.5, apr stage 1 ecu/tcu, 5(five) bbs ci-r's because my car loves potholes, Eurocode sways/links, Eurocode alu-kreuz, and an undying love of hard parking

Exactly. If you can get the dealer to do the work for free then why not but otherwise that's what I'm doing. Lol

Honestly the s7 power is good enough for me. I live in the city which is mainly stop and go traffic. Plus i switch cars pretty much every other year so that kinda investment on a car i prob wont keep for more than 2 years sounds like a financial mistake lol. Wont lie it does sound tempting though

Congrats, Steve! Yes, bring it out to Bear Mtn. and lets drive/photos!

I have a feeling one of these will be my next move in 2-3 years.
