    Steam/condensation coming from grill?!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey guys, I have approx 7k miles on my rs3 and this is obviously the first winter but ever since it's been cold after I park my car I see what I think is a significant amount of condensation or steam coming from, if standing in front of the car, the upper left portion of the grille. This has never happened with any of my previous cars and maybe it's a coincidence but after letting the car sit, my coolant reservoir was a little below the min level so I added a bit. Maybe just a coincidence but I thought I would ask the community to see if this is common or something I should get looked at. Let me know guys. Thanks

The RS3 creates steam in bad weather, is even written in the manual. Also from my car the water level has dropped from max to the middle, now it stays there.

Also happened to me. First time I saw it I panicked and thought my engine was on fire. But found out that this is kind of normal on these cars :)

Ok well that's good it's not something to worry about. Just doesn't seem like it should do that.

Mine does it in the snow too. I have Audi look at the coolant system and even had the coolant flushed and filled and still does it every time it rains hard or snows.

My car has done that all along, primarily noticeable in rainy or snowy conditions. I have over 18k miles now and it doesn't bother me. It just seems to be a quirk of these cars. My neighbor commented on it the other day after I backed into my garage.

Noticed this too, dont recall seeing the same on my GTI last winter but figured it was just a quirk of the RS3.20190206_210357.jpeg

I guess I spoke too soon in post #12 above. Today while driving on local streets I got a sudden dash alert to check coolant level. The temp was 214. I opened the hood and saw that the reservoir was below the minimum level. I did some more driving around the neighborhood and the temp went back down to just over 200 again. So perhaps there is a connection between the periodic steam and coolant loss.

Yep that's what mine looks like. I understand that they say there will be condensation but what it looks like in this picture and what is exactly happening to mine, it only looks like it's coming from the upper right portion of the grille. It doesn't seem to be just general condensation from rain or snow or whatever. And it just so happens I'm running low on coolant? I find it hard to believe that it's just a coincidence.
