I think the company has a lifetime warranty policy, so I thought about mailing it in for repair. But at that point I didn't feel like bothering them with an old product beat to shit.
Mistake or not, what's done is done, and I threw it away. I was unable to get it working by replacing the carbon brushes.
For shits and giggles, I looked on Amazon to see what's available. Hopefully nicer looking new models.
To my surprise, the Dremel of today looks like it might be cordless. Also, they seem cheaper than I thought. $20, and not $40. Though some cost more, and I'm not sure why/if there's a valid reason.
There also appears to be a rival company called Wen. I eyed their bench grinder because I might be able to use one, and it's only $20. It popped up as a top seller.
To be honest, I don't put much thought into these things anymore. I just look at whatever is listed at the top, as best seller, top seller, most reviews, most high reviews, and so on.
Anyone have any thoughts? Are these good? Or is it too weak and meant for much milder use, than automotive work?

And the bench grinder. I was thinking to at least use it to file down a generic Seal Puller tool that I got to change a seal. Because the ECS instructions to use it say it must be ground down thinner, though I haven't tried using it yet to confirm.
A bench grinder can also be useful with a wire wheel bit to clean things such as bolts.
