    Help with Q5 s-line features

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Been looking to buy a Q5 3.0 for my business. Have looked at several and found a '13 that had paddle shifters, squared bottom steering wheel and 20" rims. Also had dynamic mode.

Also found a bunch of 13-15' that were still s-line but didnt have the paddles, squared wheel and 19" rims. Drove a 14' but it didnt have the dynamic mode in the menu.

New to Audi's, thought SQ5's only had the paddle shifters, squared wheel and 20" wheels and dynamic mode?

    Can anyone share some insight?

Also the 14 had a really spongy brake pedal and motor lagged a bit. Is that common for that year? If not anything I should look for besides air in brake lines?

    Thanks.

The "S"s have the sporty goods. Certain trim pieces, such as steering wheels, bumpers, skirts, paddle shifters, etc., can also be found on the "S-Line" cars.

I have a '17 S-Line. I opted for the exterior package. It offered the 3.0 TFSI supercharged engine, the 20" wheels and tires (i got the sticky summer tires) and all the exterior stuff, like the egg crate upper and lower front grill and rear valance. I did not get the S-Line interior, so I have the round wheel and don't have the adaptive suspension and other interior enhancements.

I was primarily wanting the supercharged V6. It was only offered in the SQ or the S-Line. I didn't have a strong sense of need for the upgraded interior to justify the extra cost of the full SQ.

It is primarily an executive business car that sees a good bit of highway travel. I rarely have passengers, or if so, only one in front with me. I often fold the rear seats flat for more cargo used in my business, so it fits my needs well.

So, there were different S-Line packages, exterior, interior, or both.

I shopped for quite a while before I bought my 3.0T. Must have looked at thousands online and dozen in person. Some tips:
    - there were changes throughout the years that none talks about on here. Google "2016 audi Q5 order guide" (replace with the year you're looking at) for details. The official Audi docs are good for understanding what you're actually getting.
    - dont expect listings to say options correctly. They simply dont on these cars. It's a huge opportunity. I learned to identify options based on pics alone. Comfort package for example the doors have more leather and the center console has ventilated seat icons that otherwise are blank. I forget the other nuances but you can pick them out with some research.
    - Due to poor listings and dealers not understanding these cars, you can get a fully loaded model (very hard to find but out there) for the same price as one with no options. That's what I did.
    - often if you go to the dealer's website and find the same car you saw on cargurus autotrader etc., there is often a link for free carfax report on it
    - I like to look for late production as possible. For example my 2016 was barely a year old when I got it because it was one of the last 2016s made in summer 2016. There are 2016 model year that were almost twice as old with no price difference. Also warranty starts on the date the car was first sold, so later the better. I got warranty for several years free by milking this. Carfax report (see above bullet) provides this info but VIN can also be a proxy.
    - dont be afraid of out of state and jump on a good deal. I bought my Q5 from across the country from a Porsche dealer that mispriced it (as a 2.0). My friends and family thought I was nuts to pay $1200 to ship it. Well, I got it for $4500 below wholesale auction and almost $10k below market so it was well worth it. I called them to start the purchase process just minutes after they listed it for sale.
    - Condition is just as important as options. Try to get 2 independent shops to do a PPI before finalizing a purchase, even if it is under warranty.

Thank you everyone. I can’t reply individually via a cell. Site won’t let me. But still have questions.
So this 2013 I was looking at had all those features I mentioned but also had the ability for the dynamic mode. Haven’t seen that on others I’ve looked at.
When does the dynamic option show up in a q5?

Just an optioned out Q5 sline or did they add that when they bought it originally?

This dealer doesn’t know shit so can’t ask them.
    Thanks again.

Great info. Where did you look on to find out of state without changing area each time?

There are two different dynamic mode options.

Audi Drive Select - this can be added in 5 minutes to just about any Q using something like OBDeleven. My Q came with it but has almost no value IMO.

Adaptive Damping Suspension - I love this, would cost thousands of dollars to retrofit. Definitely valuable.

I had the best luck with Cargurus.com and ultimately where I found my Q. Using the filters you can change distance to nationwide.

Bigger rims and the flat bottom sw can always be added pretty easily, I'd look for a well optioned one with all the electronic bits/color you want first. IMO B&O/Drive Select/Sport seats are a must with the 3.0T. All Q5's that got the 3 spoke wheel whether it was flat bottom or not got paddle shifters, TBH I rarely use them on mine.

Color doesn’t matter as it will get wrapped flat black so it doesn’t reflect in the other cars.
My question really is how come this 2013 has the dynamic mode while the other ones I’ve looked at in various years don’t?
I will probably be going to wider rear wheels anyway. Just trying to figure out how come this was well optioned. Thanks

here is the window sticker from my 2013 Q5 3.0t with full S line package. S line exterior makes the q5 look so much better, the proportions are spot on with the wheels. i wouldnt buy without it. VolkswagenWsSpider_WS_id6e7ae088-01ee-11e9-92a3-06c0ce69d5e0-1.jpg

S line exterior came standard with the 3.0T on some years. Important to check the yearly order guides to be sure what options were.

I did google 2013 guide since this car was that year. Didn’t find much. Think I have a decent idea of what they offered for S-Line now thanks to you all. Have to dig more in this car.

I have the exact same car as featured, except in Brilliant black. It is one step below the SQ5 and with the paddle shifters and adaptive dynamic suspension, it drives more like a sports car than an suv. I searched for 3 months and drove several thousand miles looking for this exact one. To anyone reading this in the future, if you want the very best Q5, get the S-line, prestige with the sport package. It has the same engine as the SQ5 and with a couple of pulleys, can be upgraded to be just as fast without the insane insurance.

Mine is an S-Line in Brilliant Black. S-Line exterior but regular Q5 interior. Came with 20" five spoke rims and summer tires.

It did not have Adaptive Drive Suspension or Dynamic Mode, but, honestly I did not seek that and don't miss those options.

It was the supercharged 3.0T engine I wanted. My intent was to keep a compliant suspension, but bump up the horsepower with stage 2 tune and tune the sport and manual modes on the ZF8. I purchased it new in February '17, the last year for that engine for the SQ/Q5.

For a quite modest investment in mods, it is a lot faster (quicker) than any stock SQ5.
