Windshield Replacement for B8.5 S4 in GTA (west end preferred)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
While driving in bitterly cold weather a few days ago, I heard a loud noise and there it was, a hairline crack at the base of the windshield. The crack has since crept to midway up the windshield as I haven't had a chance to do anything with it. I called my insurance and was confirmed that they will cover the windshield replacement cost with a $500 deductible. Does anyone have a recommended place to have the windshield replaced in the west end GTA, preferably in the Mississauga-Oakville-Burlington area. The replacement must be an Audi OE windshield, no cheap aftermarket alternative.

Is there anything I should be aware of? Things to look for? How can I tell that the new windshield is OEM Audi? What sort of prices should I expect for an OE product?

    Thanks in advance.

If you want OEM then you have to go through the dealer. If you want OE then you can call glass shops around your area.

I would start with the dealer and see what the price is. They might not be too bad in price. Also they will stand behind their work. They might also give you the name of the guy that will do the work and you can contact him directly (probably not).

Another thing you can do is call a few used car dealers that deal with high end cars and ask them who they use.

Little while back i replaced my windshield on my S4 and went through this exact situation. Granted im in Calgary, so pricing reflects the shops i contacted but pricing shouldnt be that much different.

Cheap China glass was around $230-270, never wanted this route either
OEM dealer glass (AUDI stamped) will cost easily $1000+ by the time it is installed at a dealer, classic Audi Tax here. I was able to find a local shop that could supply an Audi stamped windshield for about $750 i believe.

I was able to find an OE windshield (OEM type manufacturer minus the Audi logo) for about $540, which is what i ended up going with. Cannot quite remember who made the OEM windshield (SAINT GOBLIN i think), however this was Pilkington, who made all the side windows. Good enough for me.

actually guys not to be pedantic but for future viewer it is the other way around ....

OE is Original equipment : .. the original equipment that your car came equipped with .. with the Audi stamp and sign of quality.
OEM is original equipment manufacturer : . for example it is the same company that made the glass for Audi , but not necessarily to the same standards and MAY not carry the Audi stamp of quality. ( four rings )
Aftermarket : equipment that will fit but not made by the OEM with varying degree of quality and usually a price to match. Doesn't mean its bad , but you are definitely rolling the dice.

    carry on :)

I'm staying tuned to this because my 8.5 has 220K on it and It is quite pitted ( HWY CAR) . I don't want a claim on my insurance but would consider replacing it at the right price.

Audi Oakville can typically get OEM (stamped and all) glass and a company called Joe's Auto Glass comes in and does the install. Used to work there, never had any issues with workmanship/quality/install and insurance can usually be set up so you would only pay your deductible directly to them and the rest gets billed directly to them.

Thanks for the advice and comments. Here's the update.

I contacted Audi Mississauga (787 Bancroft Dr, Mississauga, ON L5V 2Y6), they checked my VIN and quoted $655 for an OE Audi windshield for the 2015 S4. I emphasized that it must be an OE part, with stamp and all. The service person assured me that it is. Once they receive the claim from my insurance, it would then take about 2-3 days to order and bring in the windshield from their depot. The installation cost is $250. The total parts and labour cost would be a nudge over $1000. My deductible is $500. I'll wait until this nasty cold front goes through and we are back to seasonal temps, then book an appointment with the dealership for the new windshield.

sounds good but I'm not sure I would want a claim on my insurance for 500 bucks. I would consider it costs of running a car and spend the money to replace it.

I guess I would suggest investigating with your ins company first to see the impact of making a claim.

I had the exact thing happen last year on my '15 A4. I went through insurance but insisted on OE Glass (St. Gobain). Insurance covered it (I have no deductable on glass coverage) and had it done at Mississauga Audi....it went down exactly as Screentime stated and cost my insurance roughly a little over $1K. My insurance stated that if you have glass coverage on your policy, the claim does not work against you....so no impact.
