    Fair price for S4

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Just wanted to get an idea about pricing . I'm looking at a b8.5 6sp for my son. I'm only considering cars with the sports differential and any color but black or red. We drove a 13 that was modified with 83k miles. I know it was well-maintained. He's asking 21.5k. All the others are later years 15 and 16 with much fewer miles and more options (tech package and parking sensors) in the mid 30s.
Is the 13 a buy or pass?

I paid 38k from dealer last March, but it was a 6 speed (harder to find, for me at least) with only 4,000 miles on it and Audi care transferred to me til 50k miles. That price is a lot more than I see them going for, but I got basically a brand new car.

Most I see are going for 25k-32k with more miles on them.

I purchased a stock 13 with 100k for 17. Modified and fewer miles for 21 seems about right. IMHO

Does it make a difference with options? The 13 is basically stripped except for the sports differential. Ideally, I'd at least like the side assist. If I were ordering new for myself, I'd want the adaptive suspension and lighting.

83k miles is a lot. I'd offer 18k, and then settle at 20k, and not a penny more. Assuming the sport differential oil was changed and service was regular.

Manual B8.5 are holding value because there are no manual B9 S4 or even anymore B9 A4 after the 2018 year. So they've become more rare. P

Thanks for the replies. I'm not going to consider spending 30k. My wife thinks I'm nuts to even consider a new car as my kids don't really need one (we'd be selling a 14 Honda Civic Si). If the 13 doesn't work out, I'll keep my eyes open. I've got some feelers out with some contacts in the car industry. Would it be unreasonable to consider the 335i/340i x-drives? I have an inside track to a BMW manager.

I'm just curious, if this car is only for your kids to use, why would you trade something generally considered to be very reliable like a Honda Civic for an Audi or BMW, and especially an S4 or 335i/340i? It's hard to make recommendations with understanding the driving force behind this purchase.

This is a very good point. My wife has echoed this on a daily basis. I never considered getting rid of the Honda until a friend said his brother in law wanted to get rid of his S4. I told him I'd look at it; took a test drive, and was impressed.

The Honda is a fine car, but nobody in the family is in love with it. My kids would rather drive our 16 GTI.

We do a lot of driving to the NJ shore, over 3 hours away. My wife and I put a ton of miles on our cars. We would start using the new car for the trips - the Civic and GTI are too small.

You are definitely the voice of reason, and, with each passing day, I tend to get pushed toward keeping the Honda.

    Thanks.

If this helps, I just purchased a 2014 DSG, Sport Diff, B&O, Driver Side Assist with less than 50,000 miles for $26500 in the DC metro area. It had one owner and all maintenance was per schedule at the same Audi dealership and recorded on the Carfax.

I have been extensively combing for my ideal B8.5 S4 lately, but the 6MT seems to be the sticking point and dramatically decreases the number of available cars. From what I have gathered lately, the 6MT is far more difficult to find, and is actually commanding a higher price than the DSG counterparts. Secondly, the options are very difficult to pinpoint if the car isn't currently sitting at an Audi dealer, and even then its been so-so; specifically referring to the sport diff on this one. Also, finding something that isn't magma or lunar is proving to be more difficult than I had ever imagined. Anyway, what I'm finding in the 14-16 MY range for cars under 40k miles and my desired option list is anywhere between $29-39K; depending on the typical variables.

Interesting side note: I'm also considering SQ5s, but interestingly the insurance premiums between the S4 & SQ5 is about $35/month with the SQ5 being less expensive. I'm not sure if that the 6MT, because the cars were otherwise optioned the same less the sport diff.

I found mine at a ford dealership with a perfect service record. The dealership did not list the car with B&O nor the sport diff. I had to check the MMI and confirmed it on the original sticker that was in glove box.

You are basically looking for exactly what I have been searching for since the summer and I finally found it last month. It’s a 2016 Glacier White Metallic/Magma 6MT w/ 23k miles, sports diff, B&O, black optics, tech package, etc. Also, warranty until July 2019 and Audi Care with 25K & 35K services left. I did pay $37K for it, which is more than I was looking to spend, but I’m completely happy with it. I wasn’t expecting to find what I found, therefore, I couldn’t be happier. Eventually, someone will be getting rid of theirs and others will be able to pick them up and be just as happpy. Oh... and although the front paint gets dinged up way to easy imo, that small black dot on the bumper was a fly in the picture. Whoever had it before maintained it really well!

Bought a 2010 ice silver metallic DSG with 76k. It has Silver Napa leather premium plus with carbon inserts. Picked it up for 17k. Car fax reported maintenance done at the same shop from 10k-60k miles.

I'm glad to see you found your ideal sample! Interestingly, there was a white, not sure if it was Ibis or Glacier, 2016 S4 with 6MT, Magma/Black, sport diff, MMI, BO & B&O at a dealer about 60 miles from me when I began my search. It was at Audi of Rochester in NY. Unfortunately, I only saw a few images of it online before the car was sold, but it seemed like a really solid car from what I saw. It still wouldn't have been for me however, unless I found someone who wanted to trade door panels & seats, because magma doesn't suit my personal tastes.

Patience is definietly key when searching for your specific option list. Congrats on finding your car, it looks great!

I have a '13 S5 i bought last Feb. estoril blue, 50k miles, 2 owner Cali car for $27k. but its a dsg trans not 6MT. has the sport diff as well. that was the absolute best deal i found in my search radius with the mileage i was shooting for. most of the other S5's i saw were still in the mid $30k range and even some with higher miles. I wasn't even planning on buying a car at the time but i had to jump on it.
