    2015 A3 Water Pump

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Brought my car in for the 55k maintenance and brought their attention to how my coolant was way under the min line a week ago. Get a call today saying my water pump has a leak and it’s gonna be 1200$. It’s odd that this is happening at only 55k miles. Should I get it replaced with the dealer or would it be cheaper somewhere else. What have your guys’ experience been with issues like this?

I can almost guarantee that it'll be a lot cheaper at a reputable independent. It does seem odd that it's failing so early, but I suppose anything is possible. If it was me I'd absolutely take it to a good local mechanic, assuming you know of one.

Mine was replaced along with the thermostat at 54k. Pump and thermostat was 800 bucks at a trusted independent. Sucked that it was just out of warranty

Dealer is the very last place I'd go for work. Cheaper anywhere, and unless you are in the sticks, there's probably a decent euro shop around. I just did myself last time I needed on on my A4 but I'm comfy with that sort of stuff.

Waterpump and thermostat is a known issue on this car. Audi has been known to have waterpump issues in other models in the past as well.

I'm on the same boat as you. 2015 A3 with bad thermostat. I just ordered the part and I'm planning to replace it this Sunday. It will be a little warmer so I can do it outside.

Found a Euro Mechanic to do it for $620 which is pretty high but I guess that’s what I get for not doing it myself...

The thermostat is $165, water pump $55, couple gaskets $30. I did 3 water pumps on my 09 Audi A3 and 4 carbon buildup cleanings so I am familiar with what needs to be done but I would say $600 is not that bad considering the work involved.

I work at an independent German shop and we've replace water pumps on a 2015 as early as 45k. Whether it be the plastic pipe to the cooler or the thermostat/water pump assembly they are pretty prone to failure

Pretty normal for these engines. My GTI's went out at 19k and my A3 at 16k. Bummer it happened out of warranty.

Finally finished with mine. It is not much different than CCTA/CBFA engines on the previous generation A3. Audi/VW engineers did a little better job this time so we don't have to remove the injectors with the intake manifold. They still screw up with the fuel pump - the flange is on the way of the intake manifold so you have to disconnect the fuel line to remove it. If anyone decide to do it yourself be sure you replace the $5.00 connector between the thermostat and the oil cooler. I didn't, bolted everything and was ready to start the car when I noticed drip - drip. I had to do everything twice because of that little piece. Oh, and while the intake manifold was off I did carbon buildup cleaning. I had CEL couple times last month with freezing cold temperatures. The car is with 105 000 miles and runs like a champ now. Not a single error

    Hello all,

I have a 2014 s3 sedan and have to bring it to the garage because the thermostat is leaking.
My car is only 4,5 years old and has only 20000km, it is really unacceptable for a premium brand like Audi!
It will cost me 1311 euro to have it fixed :(

Just had the Water pump and housing replaced on my 2015 A3 at 36k miles, under warranty but seems like a common issue.

The dealer forgot to connect the charge pipe back in afterwards, just something to check when you pick it up..

Yes. I got it from the invoice. When I was searching for this part I also couldn't find it. The dealer typed it directly on his tablet. He said he knew exactly what it is.
