Thread: APR Cold Start

    APR Cold Start

    With the stage 2 file, APR has removed cold start which is great as it gets rid of the WG rattle.

    However I have noticed the disabling of cold start to be random. Most times there is no cold start. Then for some odd reason it will fire up with cold start.

    Has anyone else noticed this?

    Speaking to a friend of mine who also has APR 2, mentioned he gets cold start at times.

    Keen to hear why the cold start is a random occurrence.

    If I...
    1-turn the ignition on
    2-put it in comfort mode
    3-put exhaust in standard
    4-start engine...
    it doesn’t do the cold start.

    If I forget to do those steps it does do the cold start. (Regardless of whether the car was in comfort/standard when parked)

    Just something I’ve noticed in the 4 or so weeks I’ve had it stage 2. May be other experiences or solutions.

    My car is mainly left in dynamic. No cold start most times.
    Then randomly it shakes the garage and roars to life. It's actually deafening when you have an AWE exhaust to amplify the effects.

    Noticing the same issue with the cold start on APR Stage 2. Some times it will go through the higher RPM cold start and some times it won't. Funny thing is, I started with an APR Stage 1 tune a few months back. The Stage 1 tune had the same issue. APR released a revision to the tune. After getting the updated tune, the cold start issue went away.

    I have a feeling the same thing will happen in this case. APR will release an updated tune for Stage 2 and the cold start inconsistency will be gone. I know they've already done a revision for the "cut" at 4k rpm on the Stage 2 tune.

    The other big difference I have noticed is that stage 2 is quite linear and pulls hard up the mid-top rpm range.

    Stage 1 was a lot more aggressive off the line. To the point I was even breaking traction in 2nd gear at times. Stage 2 feels no where as rapid.

    Have you contacted APR directly or Arin@APR on here? I would make them aware of this as soon as possible so they can release an update if the behavior is not intended. That “cold weather, fuel cut” thread went on for months before Arin said he was made aware of the thread and issue.

    Good point. I will give Arin the heads up

    Again this morning car fired up on cold start.

    They had to “fix” the fuel cut by dropping boost so it didn’t demand as much fuel. When I had my 3 that is what custom code was gonna do. Turn it down until the issue went away. I sold it before I had to mess with it though. And I had the exact same issue with the cold start when I tried apr!! Forgot all about it. Did that to me a few times totally randomly

    I just got the APR stage 2 update and it fixed the issues. Incase you haven’t heard APR resolved the issues with the tune in cold weather.

    Hi,
    APR has a V1.1 out? Did you have a similar issue with cold start on your old file?

    I have their original V1.0 and I'm getting cold start up more often now and it's summer here in Australia

    100% incorrect.

    The update has no power/tq difference and no drop in boost.
