    S6 Exhaust on an A6 3.0T

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi everyone,

did anyone of the A6 drivers here try this? I know if will fit with a retrofitted S6 reardiffusor but I havent yet heard it on an A6 3.0T.
I was looking to improve the sound of mine a bit but all options are either

    1) Ugly
    2) Too much Honda Civic like
    3) Illegal in my country (germany)

So I thought about replacing the exhaust system with the one from the S6 as I can imagine it will be easy to run it legal as well as have slight improvement in the sound.
Im aware that I wont get the true V8 sound obviously but the OEM look of the quad tips and a slighty louder, more prominent noise would be great.

Does someone here have a soundfile or any impressions of it?

    Thanks!

Why not see if you can modify an SQ5 exhaust to fit...probably much closer match to the 3.0T. Maybe need an extension pipe to make it a bit longer. FWIW SQ5 exhaust sounds better than a non-sport S6 exhaust.

I put the S7 sport exhaust on my 3.0t and I'm very happy with the sound it produces, very happy.

Interesting idea, but as I recall the SQ5 mufflers a good bit larger than that of the A6/S6. I wonder if they'd fit/clear? Hrm.

Would you mind recording a small video of the Sound? Do you know if theres a difference in sound between sport S7 exhaust and regular S7 exhaust or is it just the black exhaust tips on the Sport one?

It's definitely different and more aggressive. I store the A7plus for the winter. Won't pull it out until March or April. I did not do the center resonator, just the rears.

Wait, what? the 4.0T and 3.0T exhausts are almost interchangeable?
I ask because I have a custom S5 exhaust in my garage I've been trying to sell.
If it's simply a case of adding some pipe in the center to allow for the longer length of the S6, I'm definitely going to install this when I do my downpipes.

do you want quad tips or just louder.
If you want louder, than just remove the center muffler.

Most of what I've read is that removing just the mid muffler on a C7 A6 3.0T doesn't add much sound. That's why I am contemplating deleting the rear mufflers and straight piping it. Love the car but it's way too quite.

    S7 sport exhaust on A7 3.0t
So an S7 exhaust would fit a A6? I'm looking at a S7 and or a S6 cat-back. Is there a sound difference in these two? The S6 is local to me

Hate to revive an older thread but you fellas that threw S exhaust on your As did you have to change the diffuser? I have a c7.5 a6 and found an s6 AWE touring exhaust for sale locally was curious if it would fit as is. Looks like they’re nearly the same on AWEs website

I didn’t weld my flaps and I have no issues, S7 mufflers with valves.

I temporarily cut my OEM diffuser to accommodate the extra tip as clean as I can, it’s going to get thrown out when I figure out if I’m going with OEM S6 diffuser or some type of aftermarket. I’m actually looking for one if anyone has one for sale!

So your only using 1 side to flow the exhaust? I did the same thing I cut my OEM diffuser and plasti dipped it , till I get a S6 one. I also did the RS7 tip :)

The valves are open by default, the valve motor is the one closing them. It is this way because closed valves caused by a broken valve motor could block some of the flow and cause engine damage.

So if you put the exhaust on your 3.0t which has no valve control, the valves will remain open all the time.

Mine seemed to close easily, so I had them spot welded in the open position. I might also add, valve operation on the 3L is a moot point. As a daily driver, the sound isn't that obnoxious, except when in sport mode, and you "get down on it." IMO

<I have the S Sport exhaust and did not do the center muffler only the rear resonators>

I bought the plugs for 30 bucks, always open, completely reversible to stock, no cutting wires or anything. And this retains full functionality of ADS.

Sooo, I’m new and trying to read up on this much as I can but there aren’t too many threads about the topic. I just want to clarify, I have an exhaust available to me from a 2016 a7 sport 4.0tt from behind the cats and back. This will bolt right up to my 2018 A6 3.0t cats?

    Thanks

    I found some 2014 s7 downpipes. Any reason these wouldn’t fit the 2016 a7 4.0t exhaust?

I just mounted orig RS6 sport exhaust from cat to back on A6 3.0tfsi with the AVC retrofit kit for flap control. Bolts right on. Maybe too loud in my opinion.. Will evaluate after some driving.
Does enyone know of a good diffuser with RS6 tips to mount on an european s-line bumper?
Stock RS6 tips are quite short.

Enyone know if S6 back mufflers is much different in sound?

Standard S6 exhaust is quiet, S6 Sport exhaust is similar to RS exhaust.

Would you be able to post some sound clips?

I find myself thinking about this a lot lately and all different options. S6 rear mufflers only? RS6 sport exhaust? Sport exhaust middle section only? What puts me off is that I don’t want to change or cut the OEM 3.0T S-Line diffuser (Pre-fl) so would have to come up with an idea how to deal with the rear muffler twin exits and make them OEM 3.0T style. Anybody done this?

Had a long read yesterday on German forums through translator and if I understood correctly, the only difference in S6/S7 standard and Sport exhaust is the left rear muffler which seems to have more straight through piping inside. According to the talks, the right Sport muffler is exactly the same as in non-Sport apart from black tips.

And on the RS6/RS7, the difference in Sport vs. standard is the center or suitcase muffler while the rear mufflers are the same.

Interesting stuff. I don't know if I was the only one not aware of this and the post is old news, but hey-ho let's get it out there anyway. :)

Experienced the turbos on the v8 to reduce the sound quite a bit compared to the v6 with compressor. The v6 screams too loud in a rs6 sport exhaust. Also create droning. Running now with stock rear mufflers and rs6 sport front and mid. Actually quite cool and sporty sound when it revs up. Nice and quiet on the freeway and on low rpm. Yes. I had to cut the oem mufflers off the mid section, but resulted in a more drivable car. Nice way to get more sporty sound and create no extra work on the diffuser etc.

p3u and others with S6/S7 sport exhaust, what rear valence/diffuser did you use to accommodate the quad tips of the exhaust? I just picked up a S6 sport exhaust from another member on here and need to find the correct quad tip rear valence to install on my 2012 A6 3.0T Prestige. Thanks.

I currently have the S6 valance. I will most likely be selling it once my RS6 one arrives from Germany if interested.

Does enyone know of a good diffuser with RS6 tips to mount on an european s-line bumper?
Stock RS6 tips are quite short.

Enyone know if S6 back mufflers is much different in sound?
IÂ’d be interested to hear what yours sounds like or anyone else. I did the same swap this week and so far I hate it. I think it sounds too HondaÂ’ish. Almost hope thereÂ’s something IÂ’m missing here...

The guy at the exhaust shop pointed out that my factory exhaust has a crossover pipe, x or h not sure, before the suitcase but the new exhaust does not. Anyone know what audible affect does the x/h pipe have?

They're open by default, power is required to close them. Exhaust valve delete caps are only like 30 bucks in the classifieds forum, and reversible, no welder required.
