Brake upgrade for my B8 A5

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I need to do rotors and pads on my A5 and was wondering what bolt on brakes from other models will improve the performance at little additional cost?

    S5,RS5,Q5,any of the 4s?
B8 only or 8.5 okay too?
Any car makes Other than Audi?
Fronts only or front and rear necessary

If I’m missing a list somewhere already could someone point it out to me?

    Thanks!

anything on B8 or 8.5, afaik
    Q5 3.0T works...direct bolt-on i believe (no carrier bracket required)

and there is a porche P/N, too... LINK

look around, they are not too expensive new..... LINK

    btw, i put used (ePray) S5 calipers/carrier brackets ($300) & 344.6mm F & 330.0mm R stoptech rotors & sport pads all around on my A5.

could not be more pleased with the performance.
all together, with F/R S5 cals, fluid, SS lines, F/R rotors & pads it came in a little over $1k, the labor was mine.... ; )

the A5 calipers work with the lager dia rotors from the S5, but you need to have the S5 carrier brackets that space the cal further from the spindle center....
make sure your wheels will fit, too.... ; )

Check with Mops@Nemisis he got me the best price, but more importantly, the best advice.....

I’m hoping to be able to keep my stock 18” wheels with 12mm spacers.

i believe you should be fine with 18's if you go with 344.6mm (same as S5) up front.

I found Q5 345mm fronts for $250/pair and lots of S5 fronts for $150-200/pair Is there any reason to prefer one over the other?

And do I have to do the fronts and rears or would it be okay to stick with the stock A5 300mm rears?

    performance-wise.... yes.
the Q5 are one-piece, the S5 are two-piece (they flex more)

if you do get the S5 cals, be sure they have the carriers with them.

it is ok to keep the 300 rears, but not perfect.
rears only provide ~20% of your overall braking, so the difference in having the smaller rotor from the A5 is very slight & not really noticeable or a safety issue for street use.

check with Mops & make sure the SQ are a direct bolt-up (no carriers)

Decided to just go with better rotors and pads on my stock calipers this time to save a few bucks. Next brake job I’ll upgrade calipers.
