    Retrofit MMI from B8.5 to B8 S4

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I am contemplating the purchase of a 2012 B8 S4, Prestige, Black Optic, Sport Diff 48K. I would really like the AD2P MMI functionality of the B8.5+ MMI systems. Has this retrofit been done by anyone else here? I have read https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...-RS5-to-MMI-3G and https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...ection-removed and wanted to make sure that I wasn't missing anything.

    Thanks for the help.

I have done the b8.5 mmi swap into my b8. It's super easy if the car is already equipped with nav. You only need the MMI unit and the center console controls. 100% worth it imo

Just upgrade to RSNAV instead. You’ll get carplay or android auto and bigger screens of your choice.

You may want to look into this https://rsnav.com/products/10-25-and...-q5-sq5-3g-mmi

I will eventually buy the top and pair it with this https://www.turbozentrum.de/FIS-Cont...ad-Description to cover all of the p3 gauges.

Here are some threads to get you started, if this option interests you:

    +1 here.

I just upgraded from B&O Symphony to B&O 3g+ nav and all that shit. If you like to tinker and like OEM stuff, go for it. I will say, though, that my sound is intermittent so I’m waiting on my second MMI head unit in hopes that fixes it.

You must like three things for this mod.

    1) spending money
    2) removing interior trim pieces
    3) fishing for info on AZ because it is NOT all in one place

If I were to do it again I’d go RSNAV but I bought the OEM stuff before I knew it existed.

I also installed backup camera A++++++ on this mod

Just went through the RSNAV thread and read mention that it’s not being sold for B8 anymore , but it’s on the website. Trying to figure that one out.

Previous owner did this mod to my car. Works perfectly. Only issue I have is a sketchy volume knob, which is not an issue with the conversion. Deciding if I want to replace the mini controls to fix it.

So the consensus seems to be to retrofit the RSNAV unit in place of the upgraded 3G MMI+? I assume that i will be able to use the factory backup camera and its plug and play?

It is up to you, if your b8 has mmi not concert, swap to 3g+ is very easy. RSNAV is either carplay or android device(2 different units). It all depends what you need/want etc, regardless you can use your factory camera...

Edit: if all you want is bt stream, then cheapest is get ebay adapter for 20 and connect it to ami plug, which probably your car has(not a fact)!

Check the RSNAV thread. The gist I got was that sound in the B8’s wasn’t great.

I have been reading through the RSNAV threads that I found and I confess that I am not seeing the benefits. The cost is somewhat cheaper than going to 3g MMI+, but given the issues surrounding updates etc, what are the real or perceived benefits? Apple CarPlay or Android Auto? I am certain that I am missing something, but all info is greatly appreciated.

Super easy -- took longer to run the GSM antenna cable from the back than to swap out the MMI unit and console controls. You can find the components on eBay relatively cheap. I believe the 8R1 035 746 F and onward (G, H, etc.) has the antenna that also supports AT&T 3G. I have the G model and am able to get 3G on both T-Mobile and AT&T. Good luck!

From B8.5 MMI to B8 MMI controls, completely agree. I read B8.5 MMI to B8 without MMI - this is MUCH MORE complex.

How about from B8.5 non MMI (Symphony) to MMI?

I don't mind not having Nav... just wonder have the MMI center consoles, MMI radio CD player etc.

MOST bus infotainment systems (MMI 2G/3G/3G+) use an optical cabling infrastructure, unlike the CAN bus infotainment systems (Chorus/Concert/Symphony).
So you'll have a different dash unit (J794 instead of Symphony), a different J533 that supports optical connection, an additional radio unit as it's outboard for MMI, different AMI connection if you have that in the glove box, and running optical cabling from the front to the rear, new center console controls frame, etc. It's also been documented in threads before. Look for MMI 3G retrofit threads.
