Front Tow Hook License Plate Mount

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Anyone using the front tow hook as a license plate mount? I need a front plate but I'm not sure where else to put it. Either the front tow hook or I'll do a no drill license plate mount on amazon.

    No, going frontless for now

I have a cravenspeed platypus I am wanting to sell. It attaches to the tow hook area. The lasting is in the classifieds.

I can send you the link later if your interested.

You know if the tow hook would mess with the parking sensors?

Check online. They say it does not. But I have not personally used it. Do you want it for an S4? That what I have.

if you go with the tow hook mount, i believe you'll either have to remove the right foglight surround, or drill a hole through it.

    Hey, man!

I think I sold you my summer tires a while back. Hope all is well! I moved from PA to CA so I now need the front plate. I have the tow hook mount, which I got on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01AYO9Z7U?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf

It is very adjustable so it should not interfere with the front parking sensors. However, the way I have mine now messes with the 2 right parking sensors but not every time. I just do not want the license plate higher than what it is so I just deal with that slight annoyance. Here's a pic of how it looks... DSC_0100.jpg

Yes. I had to drill a hole through the fog light cover. Not super happy about that. Good thing is that the tow hook mount is black and blends with the cover well so it's not very noticeable if I remove the front plate.

I have the platypus mount. I would say when mounted straight, it will for sure interfere with the middle right sensor and sometimes with the far right sensor. I also have a thin frame around my plate though so it covers a bit more area that it would without. Also I can confirm as well that you have to drill a hole through the fog light surround.

I might try placing my plate a bit more angled to the passenger side to see if I can clear the sensor, but debris and stuff will inevitably knock it back towards being straight forward facing. If I'm not happy with that my next thought is to bypass that middle right sensor entirely. Having the other three should be more than enough.

Edit: Also I don't know for sure, but I think for a Q5 it will not interfere with the sensors because the middle sensors are mounted in a different place. The SQ5 has the middle sensors in the bumper itself instead of the grille. Just like most vendors for the RS grilles, they probably only test fit against Q5s and just assume SQ5s are the same.

Your tires have not failed me yet! Hahaha. When I went to this one tire shop they said they couldn't install it because it was used lol. Had to go somewhere else.

Could you take a picture of an up top view. I want to see how close the plate is to the bumper. And do you have the Q5 specific tow hook?

Glad to hear the tires are still good! It's weird the shop wouldn't mount used tires.

Here are some pics from different angles. The frame is very adjustable so you can move it closer or farther away from the bumper. It even came with another spacer I could have used but I didn't. And yes, I have the Q5 specific version. The link on my initial post should redirect you to the product info on Amazon.

The frame is not touching the bumper. What you see touching is water drops between the frame and bumper (well more like the fog light cover). 20190106_093445.jpeg20190106_093454.jpeg20190106_093502.jpeg

Forgot to attach this. That's the tow hook mount without the frame attached to it. I kinda sucked at making the hole though. 20180829_155915.jpeg

Not a problem, man. Glad I could help. I prefer this look over the OEM spot.
