    Upper radiator hose leak

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Have any of you dealt with a leak from the upper radiator hose fitting? From what I understand there are o-rings inside the fitting where it attaches to the upper radiator neck. Can the o-rings be replaced or are the hose and fitting one assembly?

I just replaced my upper radiator hose. It was leaking for one of the Orings. I just replaced the whole hose. The Rein brand was only $30.

I did the o-rings in mine when I put it into the service position. I want to say they were about $2. Separating them required quite a bit of force though.

I値l look in to the Rein upper hose. Where did you find the O-rings? Are both ends of the hose the same thing?

I had the car towed back to my house so I could get this taken care of so hopefully I can get to it in the beginning of next month.

I found the part number, OEM-N90765301, online for the hose o-rings. Is there just one o-ring per hose connector? One for the upper hose and one for the lower hose?

Where did you order yours from? I知 hesitant to ask the local dealer if they have it on hand because I知 guessing Audi will want $20 per o-ring.

I just went onto https://parts.audiusa.com/ and drilled down from there. Ordered online and picked up at the dealer. Note - not all of the dealers in town were the same price. One was a good 20%+ lower than the rest.

1 o-ring for every quick connect, which is applicable to every coolant hose/pipe/etc.

Thank you, the local VW dealer has two in stock for $1.72. I was surprised to say the least. They also said G12 is no longer sold, superseded by G13.

That is correct. It should be backwards compatible with G12 though, from what folks have told me. I am still using up an old stockpile of G12.

Here's a good read on the differences in the Audi/VW coolants, and yes G13 is backwards compatible:

I知 finally getting back to this project. The A6 has been sitting since the o-ring blew. I got the hose detached from the radiator no problem. The issue I知 having is that the new o-ring seems to be too small. The new ring is on the left and the old on the right.

I tried putting the o-ring on the radiator neck and pushing the plastic hose adapter over it. Then I tried putting the o-ring in its slot in the hose adapter then putting the hose on. Neither way seemed to work.

Can someone give me some guidance on this?

I bought PN N-907-653-01 but it just seems too small. Maybe there痴 a trick I知 missing out on.

    Thank you for your help!

yeah that oring doesnt look right.. it should be same as your old one, they don't get bigger over time.

the hose will just slip right on, the only reason taking it off is a pain is because it seizes on over time, also there is a little nipple off the upper radiator hose that gets really brittle over time, mine broke off by brushing up against it when i was working on mine, so i ended up just replacing the hose.

Thank you Marko. I知 going to see if the dealer has a coolant o-ring that works or just buy a new hose assembly.

I just did this same thing last week on my A6. I only had to replace the O-ring and it solved the problem. That small one you got is definitely not right. I bought one at the dealer for $5 and it was same size and fit.

Is there any chance you have the part number you used?

FWIW I usually put a small amount of grease on an o-ring when I replace it. Makes it easier to slide things together and helps keep it from sticking.
